I need help with some Fairy Tale characters please!

I want to make a fairy tale inspired game. It is not so much the plot I am needing help with but the extra stuff I am wanting to give for the fairy tale character my PCs will pick to be their theme. In the end the gender is not going to matter. I do know that some of the abilities I have come up with would make the PCs a little over powered and I am ok with that. I want a big pool of options for my group to pick though. I do want to keep the abilities light hearted. These are all needing to be abilities that heroes would have. Though if anyone has some ideas on villains I would be more than willing to read what you come up with. Bad guys are just easier.

Elsa from Frozen would get an icy blast that scales as she levels. Later the ability to cast snow/ice shape, like the wood/stone shapes spells. Maybe animate object on snow/ice things. Or a familiar that is basically a ice elemental.

While Anna would get a bonus to strength and some spell like abilities replicating enlarge person, bulls strength, haste, force punch. Her fists could scale in damage dice or begin counting a magical/silver to overcome DR and well as count as if she was always armed.

Rapunzel from Tangled would get the cure spells as she leveled but it has to be cast though her hair. Somehow be able to use her hair for some crazy acrobatics like in the movie.

Aladdin would get an animal companion monkey. Be able to summon a flying carpet that works like the fly spell using their level as their caster level. Bonuses to bluff and acrobatics. Spells like abilities spider climb, vanish, knock, and mad monkey's.

Mulan would get bonuses to disguise and bluff. A familiar pseudo-dragon. Spells like abilities would be alter self, snap-dragon fireworks. An exotic weapon proficiency or weapon focus.

Ariel would be able to swim and breath underwater. This one would be able to speak to animals but only aquatic or amphibious animals. Spells like abilities along the line of charm person, alter self and I am sure there are more.

For Alice all I can think of is two spells that fit so spell like abilities would be reduce person, enlarge person, and I am certain there are other ones that would fit.

Snow White would be able to talk to animals I know that.

I cannot think of anything for Belle, Gaston, Beast, Aurora, Cinderella, Jack of the Beanstalk, Anastasia, anyone from the Princess and the Frog since I have not seen that movie, Pocahontas, Merida from Brave. I would like a Red Riding Hood option but I cannot think of anything fun. What the PC's do not pick I can use as NPCs.

Thank you in advance

Fairy tales, or Disney movies?

It sounds like we're in a Disney-inspired fairy tale world.

Honestly, why don't you see what you players pick as characters, and then build from there? Here are my thoughts:

_____

  • Belle -- Classic Bard or Investigator. Lots of knowledge skills, with some spell casting or alchemy (from helping out her crazy inventor Dad.)

  • Gaston -- Barbarian. More powerful when he rages.

  • Beast -- Skinwalker or perhaps even druid. All the magic of the palace is tied into him.

  • Aurora + Cinderella -- Gah, they're uninteresting aristocrats from a time period when Disney princesses only existed to be pretty and get rescued. Don't worry about them unless you have a player who actually wants to play one of these.

  • Jack of the Beanstalk -- Leshy Druid / rogue. Or Elf druid with plant companion. Or just a straight unchained rogue or archaeologist bard. Really, there's all sorts of awesome that can be done with him.

  • Anastasia -- Don't bother. She was based off someone real, not fairy tale.

  • Princess and the Frog -- You must see this film! You must! Tiana has the best worrk ethic of any disney princess and she kicks ass. It would be great to do Grippli characters with these guys, since they spend most of the movie in frog form in the Bayou doing all sorts of acrobatic things.

  • Pocohantas -- See what I said about Anastasia, above.

  • Merida -- Bloodrager!

  • Red Riding Hood could be fun as a hunter. Just sayin'.

Rapunzel is clearly a White-Haired Witch.

I don't really picture Aladdin as a spellcaster, wouldn't he just be a rogue? As I recall, there's a rogue archetype that gives either a familiar or an animal companion. Flying carpet is an existing magic item, if a bit expensive.

Ariel is probably an undine bard.

Looks like you're going with Disney movies as inspiration. We can work with that.

Aladdin is a Summoner with Familiar Bond and a Monkey Pilferer Familiar. Genie is his Eidolon. The carpet, the tiger and the big parrot are just his favorite summons. He has traits to give him class skills in Acrobatics and Climb.

Rapunzel is a White Haired Witch with Cure spells. Take Variant Multiclass Arcanist for the Discovery that grants full BaB with a particular combat maneuver (Grapple). Her familiar is a Chameleon. Give her Catch Off Guard for proficiency with Frying Pans and other non-weapon objects.

Ilsa is a Cryokinetisist. Variant Multiclass Summoner would cover most of the creature creation/animation stuff she does. An Instant Fortress covers her ability to make a castle. The command word is clearly Let It Go.

Jack the Giant Slayer is a Halfling with Child Like (to appear as a human child). Make him a Mouser Swashbuckler. Take one level of Master of Many Styles monk and pick up Monkey Shine. Have him run all over bigger creatures.

Little Red is also a Halfling with Child Like. Make her a Hunter with a Wolf animal companion or a Cavelier with a Wolf mount. Give her a medium sized great axe with Effortless Lace and a bag of holding in the form of a basket.

Peter Pan is a Half Elf Swashbuckler who went into Shadowdancer. He has a custom magic item identical to Wings of Flying, but without the actual wings.

Pulling away from the fairy tale theme a bit because I'm having fun-

Mowgli is a Wild Caller Summoner with a Panther Eidolon. He took the Guardian Spirit feat to get a Bear as a second companion.

Tarzan is a True Primitive Mad Dog Barbarian with a Gorilla companion. A trait for Perform: Mimicry covers his ability to copy sounds and behaviors.

Robin Hood is a Kitsune Zen Archer.

Lilo is a Summoner. Stitch is a completely overpowered eidolon. (who gave the four armed monster all the lazer pistols?)

The class options mentioned are brilliant! But I was wanting abilities to be added on to the base character. I tend to enjoy the overpowered games. It is my thing.

Though I whole heartedly agree with the classes mentioned. Most would be what I would pick. But to potentially add a twist if the player wants and my group loves that I want them to still have the essence of the character regardless of the class they pick. I am wanting something not class dependent that give a little extra to the player. This would be a fairly overpowered game and I realize that.

The game is currently all in my head and I know I should be letting the players pick their characters and build from there. I am wanting some ideas to work on before I get to that point. Some of my people are lazy.

Also Stitch would be an amazing eidolon. Just amazing. To me Rapunzel is a White Haired Witch but she is kind of a beast when it comes to hitting people and she is very acrobatic. So I would put her as a self taught Monk who uses improvised weapon. Red Riding Hood would be a fun Hunter and that is what I would do if I were to play that theme.

And Hmm, PBP spouse who I am so fond of, The Princess and the Frog is on my list to see but I do not own it yet. The bits that I have seen looked great though. But I would have pegged Merida as a Ranger not a bloodrager. But that is me.

Personally I see Peter Pan as a Sylph Shadowdancer with the Racial Feats up to the one that gives Fly Speed (su) !

    Natstu
Red Dragon bloodline Sorcerer, probably into Dragon Disciple with a Brawler dip

    Alternatively, Fire Kineticist

    Gray
Boreal bloodline Sorcerer, probably with a Brawler dip

    Alternatively, Cold Kineticist

    Lucy
    Master Summoner

    Ezra
    Magus, possibly Myrmidarch

    Oh, wait....not Fairy Tail....Fairy Tale....

    The Exchange

Pochohantas - I'd actually give her druid, give her racoon companion badger stats.

Animal ally chain, followed by boon companion, you can have a dog animal companion.

Ease of faith trait, caster type druid.

    Scarab Sages

Operating on the "Fairy tales through Disney filter" theme (which we happen to have been down before on these threads):

Belle: Why do people keep reaching for "Bard" when she's such a shoe-in for Occultist? Learned weirdo with more affinity for magic items than people? That's her!

Gaston: Obvious Ranger (of the Trophy Hunter Archetype), possibly with an atypically high Charisma and a few traits/feats to facilitate his demagoguery.

Beast: Just because you live in a palace doesn't mean you can't be a Barbarian (or maybe Bloodrager)!

Aladdin: Summoner is one possibility, but aside from a certain lucky find of his, he's otherwise an obvious Rogue. I'm actually inclined to suggest the latter, give him a very good Use Magic Device skill and the Carnivalist Archetype (hence Monkey familiar), and make the Genie a separate character...

Genie: ...namely a deliberately overpowered Wishcrafter Sorcerer.

Jafar: Yes, he wishes to be a "sorcerer," but in Pathfinder terms he's probably a Wizard with a parrot familiar and specialization in Enchantment.

Princess Jasmine: This was hard to work out, but an Inquisitor of the Sacred Huntsmaster Archetype (so she has her tiger) and Truth Inquisition works surprisingly well for her.

Ariel: Merfolk Bard with the Seasinger alternate racial feature. There, that wasn't very hard.

Ursula: Just because they call her "the sea witch" doesn't mean she isn't really a Druid of the Aquatic and Pack Lord Archetypes (for her two eel companions), perhaps with a few permanency'd transmutation effects on herself.

Prince Eric: Ranger with either the Freebooter or (if you wanted to be a bit flip) Witchguard Archetype.

Snow White: Bard of the Animal Speaker Archetype, I suppose.

The Wicked Queen: Literally a total Witch. She invented some of those Hexes.

Prince Charming: Cliché Paladin, possibly of the Hospitaler Archetype.

Sleeping Beauty - Dreamspun Sorcerer may be the best you can do - unless there's some crazy Lovecraftian Archetype out there that lets you cast spells while you're asleep...Aurora ftagn!

Maleficent - Also a Sorcerer - Abyssal, Accursed, and Draconic Bloodlines would all work for her.

Prince Philip - Another Paladin, with an Oath Against the Wyrm.

Pocahontas - Druid of the Green Faith Initiate Archetype works well enough. Given that a racoon and a hummingbird work pretty poorly as Pathfinder animal companions, we can say she's actually bound to a Domain instead (Swamp? Wind Subdomain of Air?). Rebuttal to comments above: She may have been an historical figure, but given that the story doesn't match the reality (and that's before Disney got involved), it's okay to call it a fairy-tale of a sort.

John Smith - Fighter of the Corsair Archetype (picking up firearm proficiency and probably Amateur Gunslinger along the way) fits very well.

Governor Radcliffe - I had been thinking a sort of Rogue, but he might actually work better as a Warpriest, with the Charm and War Blessings and possibly the Cult Leader Archetype for a roguish edge.

Quasimodo - Barbarian of the Urban Barbarian Archetype and Brawler could both work.

Judge Frollo - Cleric, of either the Divine Strategist or Evangelist Archetypes, with the Slavery Subdomain of Law.

Phoebus - Paladin of the Shining Knight Archetype.

Esmerelda - [Bard] of the Street Performer Archetype works well, as could Mesmerist.

I see Red as a Ranger, with only one Favoured Enemy: Lycanthropes.

If you want added-on special abilities, give her (Slayer sneak attack advancement, and Scaling Weapon Damage dice like Warpriest) in place of an Animal Companion. I imagine that she'd alternate between a repeating crossbow for range, and an axe for melee.
