What is in a name.

Homebrew and House Rules

I have been working on a spell-less healing class for a while but haven't found a name for it. I would like some name ideas(other then "Healer") for the class.

Too give you an idea of what the class is about I will give you a description. Basically a very select few have a powerful connection to the positive energy plane granting them life energy that they can spend on various abilities like channeling, lay on hands, positive energy bolts, spell effects like heal, breath of life, etc. You also get a selection of abilities called "gifts of creation" because of your connection with the positive energy plane and sometimes the other planes like the elemental ones and the first world. Some examples of these abilities would be wild empathy, animal companion, kineticist simple blast, kineticits utilities, familiar, wild shape, animal focus, self revival, heal the nonliving, strength of life, nature's pacifism, energy resistance, deathward aura, etc.

So nobody has any ideas for a name for this class?

Vessel?

^ good one. I was thinking "benefactor" or maybe "fount".

Conduit. Sounds like an awesome class, plz post when you're done.

Jivari? A somewhat etymologically specious Sanskritesque coinage from "jiva" meaning life and "vari" meaning (among other things), water-pot.

It seems like that class is based heavily on direct connection to higher beings or gods. What I would do it look back on people in different religions that filled that role and see if any of their terms fit. The description you gave fits a traditional shaman of Norther Asian history but since we already have a class named after that it probably wouldn't fit. Vessel was already suggested which works well but I would try to find something with a little more impact and weight behind it.
"Herald" may fit, they were messengers of higher power (like that positive energy plane) and omens of great change. If you went this way you could also make them kind of polarizing among a society where some people see them as bringers of prosperity and others see them as symbols of destruction. If I were making this class, I'd use this.

Samarit - it's used in Danish for somebody trained in first aid. It doesn't have the innate quality you seem to be looking for.

Glowing One
Beam
Beacon
Mender
Source (maybe too close to sorcerer, but I used it for a homebrew plane bound PrC, one variant was positive energy healer)
Lantern

- I admit a thesaurus was used but no synonyms were harmed in this post.

Since it seems common to call kineticists "benders", perhaps this new class could be called "hosers."

I'll show myself out.

So far I like the names Vessel, Mender, Jivari, Conduit, and Samarit. Though thinking about it, Jivari sounds like a good name for a planetouch race related to the positive energy plane.

I am glad every is using the naming convention of one word like the rest of the Pathfinder classes.

Keep in mind the class' powers have nothing to with religion so a character doesn't gain it's powers from a deity like a cleric. They just have a very strong connection to the positive energy plane on a level that is not fully understood.

I looked up Samarit and it says it is Swedish for the word Samaritan.

I used Medician for the name of my prestige healing class.

Grand Lodge

Channeler?

Medician is used in sci-fi and channeler is more spirit related though both sound interesting.

Letters. That's what's in a name. :P

I'm partial to "Vivifier", or "Vivicant". Viv- being derived from Latin for "life".

A "Vivifier" is one who vivifies(brings to life or brings vitality). Yeah that is the best one yet.

I can't find Vivicant as a actual word though.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Vivicant was made up, a portmanteau of vivify and mendicant.

Vivomancer. Cureator, Medicine Man, Life Warden, Patron

"Are you a vivican or a vivican't?"

It occurs to me that if you are looking for a term for the class-specific abilities, "influence" might be a good one. From the Latin, influere, meaning to flow into. There could be "influence points" or ways to use influence as a swift action or other goodies.

Just a thought.

If you give it different sets of abilities of which healing is but one path, then yu ould have 'counduit of life'. 'Counduit of Fire' etcetera.

This one has a direct connection to the plane of fire, this one to the plane of negative energy, this one to ...

We already have the kineticist for being a conduit of elemental power. besides I would have to completely redo the class for that path and it would make it a completely different class all together. besides I am happy with the class as is. What is taking so long is deciding what abilities to keep for it's "gift of creation" list.

What are your options?

Liberty's Edge

The Empath? (As in, "empathic healing?")

'Vitalist'

Naked people?

Well the class does get a monk like AC bonus but uses charisma instead of wisdom. So you could go naked if you want that is up to you.

I list several abilities from it's "gift of creation" along with some of the core abilities of the class at the top of this page.

Medic!

why not just use a baby name website...

If you want a verb based name, a dictionary with etymology might be useful, you can go back to latin or other word roots, then branch back up a bit.

There are translators and cultural websites. Latin, Greek, etc... many have a search function. It's best to identify a culture that the class thematically fits with and then pull from that language.

If you just looking for something you like to hear - experiment and make something up.
