Wild Empathy on a CHA class?

Advice

Scarab Sages

Tinkering with a high Charisma character that uses wild empathy, and other social skills, to avoid combats in PFS missions.

Is there a way to get "Wild Empathy" on a class that is already CHA based?

For that matter, can I get "Wild Empathy" via feats?

Thanks for any help. PC does need to be PFS legal, so no third party stuff.

VMC Druid gives you Wild Empathy as a druid of your class level at 3rd level. I have no idea what does and doesn't fly for PFS though, so maybe VMC is illegal.

VMC is not PFS legal.

1) High CHA classes don't need Wild Empathy. You can just use Diplomacy and Speak with Animals. Wild Empathy is more of a crutch to middling-low CHA classes to influence beasts.

2) Closest thing I can think of is Totemic Skald or Animal Speaker Bard.

Hmm...interesting point. I will note that Greater Wild Empathy (feat) allows applications of wild empathy to things that can't be affected in a similar manner. That's kinda the point, as I could affect more things that way.

The one I was looking into is the "Cave Druid" archetype, which retains a Wild Empathy in name, but it is modified so it affects Oozes. I could then take Vermin Heart (feat) to add Vermin to the 1st level list of things that can be affected. At 5th, I'd be eligible for Greater Wild Empathy (feat).

The kicker is that with high CHA, I'd probably need to ditch my spell casting abilities entirely, assuming I wanted a combat-able character. How bad would a druid be without spell casting? Seems like it could be done, but also seems iffy.

Though you bring up an interesting point. Could take a sorcerer with one of those bloodlines abilities that would allow charm spells to go through on uncommon enemies.

Why do you want the high CHA though? It functions well enough with 8 CHA Druids.

Also, A Dungeon Rover + Skirmisher Ranger can function well with 12 WIS, is combat able, and can affect oozes/vermin baseline.

Liberty's Edge

The Green Faith Acolyte Prestige Class gives Wild Empathy.

It's pretty much only good on a divine caster with an animal companion, but that includes Oracles as well as Druids. A Lunar Oracle can have a tiger companion and base AC on Cha. You'll need to take 6 levels to qualify, and it's a mediocre prestige class in most ways, and you'll be gaining Wild Empathy at 7th, but you're thoroughly Cha based and have Wild Empathy.

Several other prestige classes do the same, such as Mammoth Rider or Brightness Seeker.

I looked at those archetypes. The issue is that in removing wild empathy by name, the archetype becomes in eligible for Greater Wild Empathy and Fast Wild Empathy, both of which are pretty impressive feats if going this route.

Wild Empathy is d20+CHA, so high CHA results in a more impressive Wild Empathy result.

Idea would be to take the other social skills too (Diplomacy, intimidate, bluff, and handle animal).

Goal would be to generate a character that prevents as much combat as possible, due to peacefully working through encounters.

I did find the "Wild Shadow" Ranger archetype for Half-Elves, which does:

"Wild at Heart (Ex): At 1st level, a wild shadow adds only 1/2 his class level when making wild empathy checks while in urban areas, and adds only 1/4 his class level to follow or identify tracks in such areas. In non-urban settings, he is considered two levels higher when determining the bonuses for such checks. This ability alters the track and wild empathy class features."

This one is debatable, but it doesn't remove wild empathy, so its at least eligible for wild empathy feats.

Great suggestion.

If going that route, remember to take Boon Companion to keep your Animal Companion up to snuff.

Ah, found another. Wild Whisper druid archetype allows the investigator "Inspiration" ability to apply to Wild Empathy, as well as numerous skills.

+1d6 wild empathy with no real drawbacks. That's probably the best I've found so far. Does require intelligence to generate the inspiration pool.

Kinda surprised there isn't an actual Socialite themed nature class.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Nature Speaker Bard Archetype effectively has Wild Empathy as a Performance, so unless you're chasing Feats with specific prerequisites that would work.

So it exists, it's just not compatible with the build you're aiming for.

Well, although it lacks Wild Empathy one could argue that is what a Wood Kineticist is, but specifically for Plants.

Grand Lodge

Animal Speaker Bard.

It's basically a core bard with a couple weird add-ons.
