Why having players on session is great for sessions:
The players decided to go and scout the still monster-infested district of the city on the other side of the river. They scouted the area of the temple of Bane, so I decided that they found barracks and a training area where a new generation of acolytes of Bane was trained from scratch (orphan teenagers being trained the Banejugend style). Of course the two characters who were doing the scouting decided that they want to kidnap some of them for an interrogation... Thankfully two youngsters showing the most compassion toward another one that was executed as a dire example were ordered by the priest overseeing their training to dispose of the bodies... The PCs had no trouble of capturing them (Sleep Hex, what else can be said), bound, transported through the orc-occupied territory, swam through the river, and then delivered to the party's house.
The party was careful and delicate while dealing with them, discovering that they are not real zealots, just kids that were raised through fear and forced obedience... They were offered the choice: they can be sent to the orphanage overseen by the local temple of Tyr or they can stay with the party who will try to train them into some useful profession or a class.
I decided to roll the stats they will have when they grow fully adult. Damn, why don't I get such results when I roll my won stats?!
Aryn: 14, 14, 14, 14, 16, 16... His stats are better than the party (who used 25-points point buy).
Deira was less than lucky and closer to my typical rolls with 12, 13, 9, 10, 8, 10...
The players laughed and declared Aryn The Chosen One". And I think this will starts a new thread in the game plot. You see, the BBEG claims to be a rightful inheritor of the royal lineage that ruled the city - and the party was investigating the supposedly severed royal line before on the behalf of the city council that replaced the royal line and ruled the city for the last 400 years.
Now I want to make Aryn an actual descendant of that line...

Nothing ruins your day more than opening your mailbox to find a $2000 medical bill for something you were told was covered by your insurance. Awesome.
It may still be. Some places automatically bill the patient even when they have turned the cost in to the insurance company. Check for a THIS HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE note on it.
I think they do it hoping people pay along with the insurance company, so they can double-dip (at least for a while). Medical billing is incredibly "incompetent", mysteriously in favor of the medical establishment.

"Sucks to be you" really doesn't help the situation.

Captain Yesterday, Brut Squad |

Brute Squad quiz time!
Q) how many of Captain Yesterday's coworkers does it take to figure out the 2 foot tall Spongebob pillow is a pillow and not not a pillow. It should be noted, I told them four times "it's a pillow!"
A) 3
Edit: they even checked the website (inconclusive) if that isn't job security I don't know what is.

Having my first cup of coffee for the day after noon. This is such a rare event, I thought it should be mentioned.
Also in the midst of making a
Happy Easter to all those who celebrate it!

My dreams as of 20 minutes ago featured no rocking out. However, in my dreams, someone hit my car in a hotel parking lot, which made it roll down a hill into a swimming pool. Then I rescued a living stuffed rabbit that was losing stuffing but was very sweet so I determined to save it.
So yeah, dream brain you are officially weird.

The older I get, the better I am at lying / The more friends and family I have dead or dying / It's harder to define love, I need to drink more if I wanna catch a buzz / The older I get, the more articulate I am at whining

Hoppy After-Easter everybunny!
;P
Was too busy having a stage combat workshop on Fri/Sat (And joining the Crawfish boil on Sunday, then driving back home) to get on the interwebs and catch you all before the weekend!
Now, a week off. Sounds delightful!
Oh wait, I helped organize a week-long Stage combat class for this week.
(I'm calling it the 'Swamp-Slam Intensive', because we have an actual swamp in the middle of our campus. With alligators.)
30 hours, 1 weapon, 1 test.
It will be great!
And I will be exhausted.
It's not Haiku, but it'll haveta do! :)
Gotta go, Later!
:)

Pff, amateur.
I woke up this morning from a dream where I had offended Baba Yaga (who lived on the second story of the 200+ year old jail found in the courthouse green of the county I grew up in- that would be Mathews County, Va.)
Bab Yaga was chasing me because I had moved the bike rack made of cast iron pipe which was on the landing of the rusty steel and concrete stair which led to her house.
I took off running, thankful the county had replaced the water treatment plant which was there when I was a kid, 'cause I could run across the grass which replaced it.
I woke up trying to figure out if I should duck into the nearest church or if She would care if I did.
Also thinking, why doesn't she run faster?

national holyday today (Easter Monday)
we went with the boy to the nearby Ronneburg castle, last time we where there he was very young and we did not know how he would react today.
he had a he climbed stairs, touched everything in reach and commemted every room with a "knights here" "also knights" "more knights"
the castle kitchen was active and we could make "bread on a stick"
afterwards in the car he said "cool castle"
later I cooked my favorite meal, the hessian national dish: Green Sauce

That's an awesome day! I am interested to know what goes into Green Sauce?

All very cogent points. I find the paying attention bit to be my nemesis. My meditation practice has helped. Also, reading the writings of masters who confess that even after decades they still have to reign in their wandering attention constantly. It's a fight that is never truly over, much like losing weight for the metabolically-challenged. But, you are better for fighting it. I've probably halved my anxiety and wishful thinking since I began. Also, by focusing on the now, and not the could-bes and should-have-beens you find yourself more able to engage in positive things that actually help you improve going towards the future.

Hurm. Quiet day today.
Back on the T headed into Boston. I'm hoping for a short evening. The weather is that odd New England Spring mix where it's been bouncing between 40 and 60 Farnenheit, making it hard to figure out what to wear.
Have any of my NYC peeps checked out that Holiday Inn on Delancey Str? Three weeks from this coming weekend!
