Spell choose Order and Web Question

Hi,
my Sorcerer reaches LvL 4 soon and i want to choose the following 2 Spells : Web and Flaming Sphere.
I will also have Burning Hands.

The Idea is to trap the enemy and then Burn them incl the web for +1d4.

My Question is now @ LvL4 should i choose WEb or Fl. Sphere first?

Second: as i am unterstanding Web right i need at least 2 points/pillar etc withing 20 inches with at least a hight of 5 feet to be able to cast web, im right?


The 1d4 is not going to do much for you for long and destroy the control web provides. I would choose the spell depending on your party, do you need more control or damage?

Web doesn't always work great in certain situations, you need the two anchor points. You also control a large area, which is great when it works, but can keep the martial characters in your party from accessing the enemy.

I think overall web is slightly better, but they are both useful spells (flaming sphere gives you something to do with your move action at low levels enhancing your action economy). Also if you're a starsoul or void specialist or any bloodline that grants extra effects to evocation spells that might tip the balance. Both are useful, but the burning web combo is going to come up a lot less than you think.


If you want to help your fighters navigate your web, cast grease on them. ;)

I'll echo that you shouldn't take Web + Flaming Sphere simply to go for the combo effect. It's a nice benefit when you're ready to be done with a web, but not the point. Web's best when it locks down some of your opponents while letting your melee finish the others. Then you can ignite the webs to get a little free damage and open the way. You can do that with a torch though.

If you're regularly traveling / adventuring in areas where Web can be anchored, it's pretty powerful. But it does target Reflex and so does Flaming Sphere. As a sorcerer you don't get a lot of spells known, so you might be better served getting one or the other and then a second spell that targets a different save (if you take another offensive spell).
