Does a Plant Companion pervent you from taking Animal Ally?

Okay, so here's a question, let's say I have a Plant Companion. I then take Animal Ally, or for that matter a level in a class, any class, with an Animal Companion.

Do the level for them stack together like for a normal companion?

Ooooor, and this is what I am suspecting, does the fact Plant Companion has a different name mean I can now possess two, count them, two pets ah ah ah ah.

Not that it is terribly OP in the later world. A single level dip can get a normal Animal Companion to split as many times as the player likes and get the human racial and Boon Companion on all of them. But, Plant Companions aren't very good and the thought of having one and also getting Animal Ally appeals to me.

Note, Animal Ally does call out Mounts that progress as an Animal Companion, but not other class features.

I assume you are talking about the Treesinger.

Plant Bond

"The second option is to form a close bond with a plant companion. A treesinger may begin play with any of the plants listed in Plant Companions. This plant is a loyal companion that accompanies the treesinger on her adventures. Except for the companion being a creature of the plant type, drawn from the list of plant companions, this ability otherwise works like the standard druid’s animal companion ability."

Animal Ally

"Prerequisites: Nature Soul, character level 4th, must not have an animal companion or mount that advances as an animal companion."

You would not be able to take Animal Ally since the plant companion is called out as an animal companion. However, I'm not sure if levels from other classes that grant animal companions would stack with the plant companion since I think there was a ruling somewhere that when a druid multiclassed into something like a ranger that has a limited selection of animal companions, the ranger would need to have the druid's original animal companion on his list for the levels to stack. I assume something similar is in place for the list of plant companions, and since no other class can take the plant companions...

Like is a funny word.

A mount progresses as an animal companion, but isn't covered by like according to the wording of Animal Ally. So, no, I don't think those two quotes offer any clues besides suggesting the latter possibility that I already put forth is correct. As I stated in the OP.

If you already had your answer than why even ask?

Plant Companion is treated as Animal Companion and you can't have Animal Ally if you have a Animal Companion.

I've already answered the question. If you choose to ignore it that's your issue.

But if you want to ignore this;

"this ability otherwise works like the standard druid’s animal companion ability.";

than you also can't take Boon Companion on your Plant Companion either or for that matter anything that provides benefit to an Animal Companion. Since by your logic (which is wrong) they are not the same.

Yes having an animal companion (which a plant companion still effectively counts as) will prevent you from taking animal ally.

Brain in a Jar is completely correct.

If you are looking for people to come in and tell you that your word-bending interpretation is the correct one, well you're going to be as disappointed as Bill Clinton when he tried it.

Well, to put forth the obvious.

1) I had those interpretations already in the OP.
2) These words are clearly inconclusive. RaI could be read either way understandably.
3) From this it can be deduced I was seeking additional information to either confirm or deny. I.E. Feats or Class Abilities with similar interactions. Ideally, an FaQ I had failed to locate.
4) None of these you have provided.

I don't have an answer, and nothing either of you said does either. Only a RaI interpretation. This does not invalidate the second reading. I would like constructive opinions and discussions on similar class features or rulings with an open mind to the fact that either not yet confirmed or denied.

It specifically says it functions like Animal Companion.

That's all that matters.
