Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Sorry if these are answered elsewhere. I thought I remember seeing answers to a couple of them but I can't seem to find them.

1) In s$s there are a couple of locations that at first glance seem to have a golbal effect on x. Tempest Cay(when you ship is delt strutacal damage increase it by 1) and Fringes of the eye(barrier checks are increased by 3). Is it an effect for as long as that location is open, or only takes effect if someone is at that location, or only applies when the effect it modifies happens at that location.

2)Are OP characters going to have more check boxes filled then characters following the normal adventure path, because of the tier reward system?

3)For OP can you exchange a sceniro reward card for a card of the same level and type, when building your deck for the next sceniro.

4)If no to question 3 then if you don't want the card you get do you just not check the take reward box on your chronicle sheet?

5)I thought I read somewhere that they retconed all the RotRL cards to not banish automaticly if you didn't have the right trait. You would just not realistically have a chance to recharge. If this is true then with an acolyte could Flenta recharge a spell. If she does recharge does she still get a new one from the box? Or her box if using her for OP?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1) Happens only when the character who's turn it is is at that location.

This is incorrect.

As long as there's any player at Tempest Cay (no matter whose turn it is) - all structural damage is increased by 1. The effect is still not "global" - it only has effect on the player(s) at that location, but since the Ship is shared by all the party - it doesn't matter if the damage is triggered by another player at another location.

Fringes of the Eye affects only Barrier checks of character in that location - doesn't matter whose turn it is, doesn't matter at what location is the Barrier encountered. Also, my memory fails me, but I think it's possible this is one of the locations that still have an effect after they're closed.

Flenta has her own special rule about spells so she doesn't recharge them.

1) Effects are global as long as the location is occupied.

2) They should end up around the same. If you are running Season of the Shackles I do not believe those scenarios have been updated to the tier system yet. That means you can either take the rewards as-written and ignore the tier system or you can follow the tier system and ignore all feat rewards on the scenarios (the one feat reward you get to keep is the one that lets you check off a skill feat once at any point in time after completing the scenario -- you'll know which one I'm talking about once you see it).

3) No. You cannot swap cards in OP, you get what you get from scenario rewards. If you choose to not keep the reward after seeing what it is, then that is your prerogative.

4) (Going from memory on this one) If you choose to not take the reward after seeing what it is, that is on you. You still check the reward box on the chronicle sheet to indicate you successfully completed the scenario and drew the reward to see what it was (and are therefore ineligible to get the reward again should you replay the scenario), but then mark "did not take" or the like in the space provided for what the reward was to indicate you did not keep it. The only time you get to not check the "taking reward" box is if you didn't even bother looking at what the reward was (so if it was a random card draw, you did not draw any random cards). At that point, should you replay the scenario you could take the reward and draw a random card of the appropriate level, e.g. if you are in AD4 and then go back complete an AD3 scenario that you did not take a reward in before -- let's say you were at a con for that scenario and wanted to get the reward along with your main group instead so you weren't "ahead" -- and the reward is a random ally, you draw a random ally of deck number 3 or less as your reward. You do not get a chance to draw a random deck 4 ally even though you're tier 4 now.

5) I'm not sure where you heard this. You certainly banish RotR spells if you don't have the correct skill, just as you banish S&S and WotR spells if you don't have the correct skill. The only update between RotR and S&S is that they got rid of the recharge box and rolled the recharge text up into the powers box. Also, Flenta in OP still draws her new spells from the game box, not the class deck box. The only time you draw from the class deck box is if you're told to draw a card from the box as a reward. All other times you are instructed to draw from the box in OP, it comes from the game box. I'm assuming you're asking due to the upcoming Season of the Runelords since the Rise of the Runelords adventure path is not legal in OP.

You are absolutely right.... Drank way too much during New year's eve it seems.

2)How would I find out if Seasons of the Shackles has been updated to the tier system?

5)I was asking as we are looking to do a RotRL run and my wife has always played arcane caster so she thought that this character would be a good step towards playing a more weapon based character.

2) When it is updated, the PDFs will be updated. I'm sure there will be an announcement about it somewhere too. But you can update it yourself as detailed above. Just ignore all the rewards that are feats and instead follow the tier system for earning feats.

5) She is probably still a good choice for such a situation. Another option would be Seltyiel.
