Fox Form question

Advice

Liberty's Edge

My character and my friend's character are kitsune twins. My friend choses to be in fox form all the time. The only problem with that is the language barrier. He is a Swashbuckler(Mouser)and has no magical means to communicate. Is there any way my character can communicate to him?

This item is usually how people get around it.

Is there a cheaper way of doing it? My character only has a 4th amount in gold.

Your character isn't the one that needs to get it. Your friend needs to buy and/or wear it.

What exactly do you mean by 'fox form', do you mean fox-like humanoid, or the tiny animal fox?

In the former case, that creature speaks all of its languages (common and sylvan at the least), so there should be no communication problem.

In the latter case, while a tiny fox (an animal) can't speak without some kind of magic (unless the DM allows foxes to speak), it retains its intellect and personality and so can understand all of its languages (common and sylvan). I would think it could use the bluff skill to convey messages (perhaps requiring a sense motive skill check to be understood). It could also scratch written messages in the dirt.

I don't understand why it would be good for a swashbuckler to remain a fox all of the time. How would they use a sword?

Kitsune racial feat Fox Form. You turn into a tiny fox to get the +4 dex and you use you bite instead of a sword since bite is [P, B, S] and light.

if one of you can get ahold of craft wondrous item ask your DM if you can craft a 3.5 item called a Pearl of Speech, it can be completely recreated in the magic item creation rules and once your fox brother activates it he can speak even though he is in fox form.

My Occultist mouser uses a beastspeak wand for 4500 gp, would last 30 minutes a charge or 90 gp per use. Now that occultists can no longer have a permanent familiar. Sure it's less beefy then a full bab option, but being able to fly on my own, add bane (anything), generate temp hp, add 30' extra move speed as a swift action or be able to teleport 90 as part of (not instead of) a move action into someone's square without it provoking seems good.
