Occult Adventures and mindscapes

Advice

Hi,

Bit of a newbie here, so I hope this has not been asked before. Regarding Mindscapes (create mindscape, microcosm, etc.), is there any effective counter at all? Or are they (especially microcosm) basically save-or-die spells? I ask because those spells tend to be low level (for example create mindscape is level 4) and has large range/needs not even be targeted. Or is Mind Blank finally useful :) ?

Thanks,
HalfElfWizard

Well, you can escape from a mindscape, so it's not a save or die.

You can escape from normal mindscape either with mindscape door or by fulfilling the exit condition

but yes microcosm is save or die basically if you don't have an high level caster, but it's not that surprising from a level 9 spell

The issue with that is you have players like mine, who argued that mindscapes are OP because if the person fails their save you can just walk up and Coup De Grace them, and it led to a huge argument between me saying "thats not how your supposed to use it" and them going "but why would i ever NOT use it that way" and it was a whole debacle.

Eh Mindscape transports the user's and the target's consciousness in the mindscape, so he can't coup the grace the opponent

Hi

Thanks Hazrod. Yeah, thats the concern-since the target is not conscious once the affect hits it is easy to neutralize/capture/etc. Basically, assuming there are multiple combatants (i.e. you are in a party), and assuming at lower levels the BBEG/dragon/etc is not immune to mind-affecting spells, one failed will saving throw ends the fight. Even if you did eventually beat the DC, because time was accelerated in the mindscape, the 5 rounds it took you to beat he DC would be 10 rounds in the 'real' world. So the 'you get a chance to escape' needs to somehow be 'you get a chance to escape in time to actually do something'. Just my two cents.
