Poison-Berry Rule Question

So my players picked some Moonberries and cast Goodberry on it without checking what kind of berries they are, what are people's opinions on how this would work?

Who casts goodberry without having knowledge nature?

Remember that the character is seeing it. If they don't know its toxic thats a failure on your part to describe it, not he players in not asking for a description.

I did describe them as being different from normal berries, and the druid didn't think anything of it, and i have no idea why he doesn't have knowledge nature.

Knowledge checks are automatic.

As an example if I see a 1967 Ford Mustang and I recognize it, then I made my knowledge check.

If you see an oak tree and know it is an oak tree then you made your knowledge check.

I think it's important as a GM to look over the character sheets. If they are on computers or on the net then ask for a copy before play starts so you can review them. That way you can figure out perplexing situations like this before they happen.

Are these first time players? Video gamers? Maybe the Druid player didn't realize that the nature thing was all that important.

They were not new players, the knowledge check wasn't the issue, just curious about the effects of goodberry on poisonous berries

Casting goodberry makes 2d4 freshly picked berries magical. You (as well as any other druid of 3rd or higher level) can immediately discern which berries are affected. Each transmuted berry provides nourishment as if it were a normal meal for a Medium creature. The berries are transmuted to magical berries that are nutritious and healing. They are no longer poisonous.

If you improperly pick out the magical berries, and accidently include some unchanged ones, then you have a problem. :-)
