Wrath of the Righteous - Temptation of Arms

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Temptation of Arms has you drawing 3 Weapons and then allowing you to choose 1 and add it to your hand.

Then it says: "If you added 1 to your hand, the barrier is undefeated; a character at your location is dealt 1d4+1 Combat damage."

Is it "a random character at your location" or "a character of your choice at your location" that is dealt 1d4+1 Combat Damage?

In any event, I find it odd that I could choose to add a Weapon to my hand but possibly have another player suffer the damage... Even strangier if I can deliberately choose someone else... That's just nasty for the victim: he suffers damage (and 1d4+1 can be a great deal of it) for a boon he did not even acquire, all while it's not even his turn... Enjoy the game, and enjoy your next turn!

I would have tought that if you choose to "give in" to the temptation you, and only you, should be suffer the consequences...

My read is 'a character of your choice'. You can always choose yourself if that's how you feel, or ask if someone else at your location is willing to take the hit (and if he has armor, he can use it to blunt/negate the damage).

Well, you have to test your new weapon on something. Better another character than yourself. :D

It's a cooperative game, if the player isn't ok with taking the damage you don't pick them -- simple as that. That's an actual codified rule in Organized Play but even outside of that you generally shouldn't be a jerk to your teammates.

In any case, you do indeed get to pick which character at your location is dealt the damage.

Hahahahah! Card should read: "If you chose to test your new weapon on another player, you gain the trait Demon"

You can choose. If you are in organized play, the rules say you can't choose someone else if they aren't ok with it. If you are playing at home, Mike Selinker does not negotiate social contracts. I know I wouldn't choose someone else if they weren't comfortable with it.

Keep in mind another character might be well suited to soak up that damage, either with armor or powers or maybe they have no cards in hand. Hopefully you and your friends can work together to choose the outcome that is most desirable for your group.

In line with the cooperative play, it may not be you who wants the weapon. Harsk and Seelah may be at a location, and Harsk may get the barrier. He draws 3 weapons, and one is the super awesome new sword that Seelah's been coveting. She may say, "Take it. I'll take the 1d4 damage." In my experience, most players will consider allocating resources to help another player get a boon they really want.
