Mongrel Mage thoughts?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So, we all know the Razmiran Priest is a solid archetype for giving the sorcerer untold versatility.

So, what about the Mongrel Mage?

Linkyfied for your convenience

This guy has potentially untold limits of versatility. Have every bloodline at your fingertips? Yes please!.

I mean, with all the bloodlines Paizo has now, that is a lot of potential mixing and matching. The fact you get the bloodline spells too (at a rather slow rate mind you) is super nice.

So what do you guys think of this guy?

Additional Thought #1: This guys works really weirdly with Psychic Bloodline....

Additional Thought #2: Have they ever clarified how this guy works with Dragon Disciple... if at all...

it sounds pretty bad to me... sure you can theoretically use any bloodline, but it's at cost and does not appear to have any ability to actually mix more than one bloodline into a day, let alone an encounter.

I would like it better if bloodlines were better. Many of them have extremely awkward, or very situational abilities that you'll rarely ever be able to plan for at the beginning of the day.

Massive amounts of flavour. If you know what kind of stuff you'll be facing for the day, you can choose the best bloodline/powers to use with it.

personally I really want to play a Mongrlfolk Mongrel Mage. My magic will be as mixed up as me...

Also note, you can also choose bloodlines that are normally limited to specific races since they aren't granted by an archtype.

Dwarven Mongrel Mage with Kobold bloodline appeals to my sense of humour...

Kind of clunky. You get 3 spells at each of 7th, 13th and 19th levels rather than evenly over your career. From ~11th level the swift action required at the start of each encounter kills its value, as it displaces a quickened spell.

Still, it could be fun and gives you a little room to change your character to the expected situation rather than trying to make every problem a nail for your sorcerer's hammer.

Also Eldritch Heritage still lets you keep one set.of powers all the time for some consistency (i suggest Arcane personally)
