Hey gang, playing a Swashbuckler in a very highly modified and no holds bared Curse of the Crimson Throne and loving the game.
We are currently at level 8 and my Swashbuckler has Mithril +1 Human Bane Rapier. I have enough funds for an upgrade, and a shinny Belt of Dexterity to go with it.
Not using Defending as my character uses a Wand of Shield and Dex and magic armor and Parry to avoid hits.
What +1 or +2 augment would you advise?

Answering, all the way. The strongest enchantment you'll ever be able to find for anyone who uses Opportune Parry and Riposte (and you should be). It means your Ripostes bypass all forms of DR except DR/- too, since +5 weapons beat even DR/alignment, and since you have another special ability on there, it even beats DR/epic.

That's how Answering works?

It's hard to go wrong with one of the elemental damage enhancements or their "Burst" upgrades - Keen is another obvious choice, but perhaps you intend to acquire that by way of taking the Improved Critical feat next level?
Elemental damage enhancements suck. They are activated "on command", which is a Standard Action. You're then trading +1 to-hit for +2.5 damage that is not multiplied on a crit, will not help you get through damage reduction, and will often be negated by enemies' resistance. Burst enhancements are even worse. They give you a little extra damage on crit but again, take away from your to-hit, which makes it harder to confirm those crits in the first place.
Keen is redundant, as Swashbucklers get Improved Critical for free at level 5.

Answering is also a good choice. The way it 'actually works' is that its enhancement bonus is treated as being 4 higher (to a maximum of +5) when using Opportune Parry and Riposte. Because you have to have a +1 on the weapon before adding other enhancements, it essentially always counts as a +5 weapon when using that deed. That's a great improvement to your chance to stop an incoming attack, and to your attack roll on the Riposte. And because it counts as a +5 weapon when you Riposte, it will get through the aforementioned damage reduction types.
The only problem with it is that as the weapon is upgraded further, Answering counts for less. Once the weapon is at +4, Answering is strictly worse than simply having that straight +1 enhancement. Once the weapon is at +5, Answering does nothing at all, and makes getting further enhancements much more expensive. As far as I know there is no way (other than "ask your DM") to remove an enhancement from a weapon.
