Question concerning Eldritch Guardian arctype

There is a unique familiar called Kami, Shikigami. It has the merge with ward ability as a special ability. What happens when it merges with the ward. Since the Fighter is the ward for this ability?

It just disappears. It's still aware of its surroundings, but it cannot do anything until it emerges.

Which sounds like "useful for a witch, no so much for a fighter".

Fighters share feats with their familiars, which can allow them to do all sorts of interesting things, like doubling up on maneuvers per round, or taking (some of) the teamwork feats that you two can share.

Fighter familiars tend to be tougher, if only due to the virtue that they are using 1/2 the hp of a sturdier class. This is particularly true if you use a mauler familiar (which gets around the same part as a d8 class if you take that one feat)
