Ranged Rogue.

Advice

hi all. First of all I'm interested in making a ranged elven rogue.

the way I plan to go about this is by picking up both the Scout and the Sniper Archetype. the idea that by level 8, my character should be able to deal sneak attack once every turn from a distance of up to 60ft away, his weapon of choice being a composite longbow.

stats are subject to change (also my regular table has there own rules, your total stats have to equal 80 before race mods.)

18
20

what feats/rogue talents would you recommend for this kind of build?

I play a archer archetype/ninja hybrid so I can't help with the rogue talents, but I'll point you to a few things I've seen and thought were cool. I'm not a super optimizer, so depending on what level of that you want, take with a grain of salt.

First off you probably already know about the rapid shots, and the deadly aim and precise shots that make up the basics.

A few feats you may have overlooked are things like "Bullseye Shot" from 'Faiths of Purity'. It lets you spend a move action to add a +4 to your next shot, provided you shoot before the end of your next turn.

The 'Ranged Tactics Toolbox' has a few things like "Ranged Disarm" and "Ranged Trip" in case you want to play with some enemy control.

And one last thing, Sniper goggles are a 20,000 GP item that let you make sneak attacks at any distance. You get a bonus if using them within 30 feet. For 50,000GP Greater Sniper Goggles gives you that +2 bonus at any range. It may be worth an investment for you.

I would strongly reccomend Slow Reactions. A lot of damage comes from AoO, just think of those monsters with reach and powerful attacks. You'll be a mayor asset for your team like this.

Bleeding Attack could work well, as you are mobile - depends if your team is setup for mobile combat or endurance. Get a couple of bleed stacking effects and war of attrition everyone. Circumstancial.

As with any rogue I would pick up Ki Pool and Ninja Trick (Vanish), to get away when they do close in melee.

Twist Away feat is fantastic for rogues.

I would also consider Minor + Mayor rogue talents (UNCHAINED), they are actually rather good now.

While a great feat, he needs to move 10 ft per round to get sneak attack. Unless you have Jaunt Boots it isnt a very helpful feat.

It's less fantastic after the nerf, but it's still a solid feat. There are times when you REALLY need to make a fort save, and this give a massive boost. But you are still going to be staggered if you use it.

If you're going to be moving every round to set up sneak attack then a bunch of the standard archery feats will be less useful to you; rapid shot, manyshot, clustered shots. They may still be useful if you can get greater invisibility. Precise shot and deadly aim will still be useful in any case.

If you can get your allies to take teamwork feats then there are some more options; stealth synergy lets you take your allies with you when scouting, broken wing/wounded paw gambit for extra attacks. Actually getting people to cooperate like that can be a pain though.

Edit: Also, if you get seriously into stealth there are feats which help. Hellcat Stealth and maybe Dampen Presence spring to mind.

If you are going to spend a Move Action actually moving, how about Vital Strike? Or Focused Shot if you have a decent Intelligence (if you do invest in Intelligence I would then consider a level dip in MoMS monk for Kirin Strike and go full int - but that is for a very specific concept that needs dedication to be fruitful).

Furthermore, shooting once a round I would then invest in special arrows. Flaming, etc.

Vital Strike will be more useful than Focused Shot here. You are limited to 30 feet with Focused Shot even if you have Sniper or the Goggles extending your SA range. Not to mention that Focused Shot is it's own action, and not an attack action, so you can't stack it with Vital Strike.

I did write "Or" before Focused shot :)
I would only entertain Focused Shot with an Intelligence build. Thanks to the OP I've found out that these stack>

Scout, Sniper, Underground Chemist.
1 level MoMS, grab Kirin Strike (unchained if possible), rest in rogue.

So: Swift Kirin, position yourself/stealth/fire whatever.

Move - Attack, adding Focused Shot (if within 30ft), Splash Weapon Damage (intelligence), Kirin (intelligence x2), Sneak Attack (Scout), Dispelling Strike/Counfounding Blades/other talents.

Would the Int damage stack?

No.

Slayer is a viable archer rouge.

Major magic gravity bow? I've heard it recommended for stuff like this but it doesn't sound that great to me.

hey guys, I just wanna say thank your all for the advice :)
