Iconic monster?

Paizo General Discussion

Is there a monster that when people see they think of Pathfinder?

When I see a beholder, I think of D&D. Does pathfinder have such a legendary Beast that can represent pathfinder as whole?

For me the Tatzlewyrm and the Quickling are the most inherently "Pathfinder" monsters.

Also, I misread this as Ironic monster at first and really wanted to see some kind of hipster mimic that stangles people with it's facial hair.

There two sorts of monsters I associate with Paizo;

1) Monsters from D&D that Paizo has breathed new life into, like Aboleth, Goblins, Ogres and Ogre Magi (expanded into a whole new Oni subtype of giant).

2) Monsters that are pretty much all-Paizo, like Boggards, Cyclopes, Linnorms, Mites, Shoggoth or Tengu.

Mostly it would be Goblins.

I'd also say goblins. They already appear as posterchildren in various places around paizo's public image, as blog illustrations (for example the gobbo with the oversized d20), when the site is down for maintenance there is a picture of them messing with a computer, in a recent holiday card paizo sent out for customers there was an illustration of goblins in a Peanuts-style winter activity panorama, they have their own merchandise...

Goblins are definitely the first monster to spring to mind when I think of Paizo...not sure about the other way around, since Paizo's goblins are quite distinct.

Yeah, Paizo really reinvented goblins and made them iconic in the process.

GOBLINS.

UN-GOBLINS.

For me, personally, I always think of that one goblin in the red dragon costume.

The Paizo Golem.

Goblins are the clear mascot.

Though the elves with their eyes also are rather distinctly Paizo.

They even have a goblin plush doll so I think that settles it pretty much.

Really? The tatzlewyrm concept isn't unique to Pathfinder. They just switched a vowel from a classic mythological beast. :P

But yeah, goblins.

Goblins obviously. But id have to say that the proteans, sinspawn, and daemons also defitenly stand out.

I also like Paizo's take on flumphs, ogres, and stone giants.

But for me personally, having run the Darkmoon Vale books, kobolds, tatzlwyrms, sluks, allips, and quicklings are what comes to mind when I think of Pathfinder.

I own quite a few more supplements where Tatzlewyrms and Quicklings came up... Both come up quite often in lower levels so it's the thing that strikes me more as "uniquely pathfinder" then anything else.

I get the connection to goblins as pathfinder added a lot more personality to them but I sort of already did this with goblins back in the 90's when I sort of adopted the personality and characteristics of goblins from Magic the gathering... so goblin bombers, ballonist, and moral bonus giving goblin heroes and kings were already a thing for me.

I will always associate pugwampis with Paizo. My first Pathfinder character nearly died from a splinter thanks to a pugwampi.

One day, goblins. One day.

Their elf eyes were, IIRC, not that different from the elves of Scarred Lands.
