Just for Fun: Sir Fredrick McCluckins!

Homebrew and House Rules

A few weeks ago...
Me: As you defeat the last demon, you take the time to look around and - why is there a chicken on the map?
Stacy : It's a minecraft chicken!
Me: ...

Tonight...
Me: The chicken is still here? Damn it, he needs a name.
Chris : Cluck!
Stacy: Fred!
Me: Fred McCluckins it is.

And that is how the heroes gained the aid of the faithful foul named Sir Fredrick McCluckins. All Hail Sir Fredrick McCluckins!

So yeah. Now we have a chicken with the party. He has a name, but I can't have a plain ol' chicken following around a party of level 12 mythic adventurers. So, I need your suggestions! I increased his size to small because of the miniature and I made him an advanced animal, but beyond that, I am open to suggestions. It should be fun and amusing, but not too tedious. Like maybe he's built so that he can run around bullrushing everyone and tripping them? That would be chicken-like, right? Ideas?

Take an Axe Beak, adjust for size, then layer on some templates (or just multiple advanced templates) until you get the perfect chicken.

If you really need some comic relief, have Fred be short for Fredwina (because most creatures named Fred lack the biological capacity to lay eggs) and have Fred able to "lay" high velocity exploding eggs. Put a timer on it like dragon breath (1d4 rounds before it can be used again) and now Fred has a ranged attack.

Don't be afraid to really mix it up - have Fred be part (or all) cockatrice with a petrification attack. For bonus points, give her a breath weapon or gaze attack or a vorpal beak.

The sky's the limit (unless the sky is falling, but then your chicken would need to be named Henny Penny).

Why not have Fred be someone under the effects of baleful polymorph? That would allow you to give Fred class levels, unless that would be too tedious? Given the 'Sir' Fred could be a changed knight, Paladin, or Cavalier.

I'm currently running a ranger/horizon walker named Freddy Wifflebat through Rappan Athuk that focuses on chickenmancy (he has the Chicken Infested flaw from Dragon Magazine #330). The fact that there's a powerful chicken that shares his given name concerns me, especially when his animal companion is a dire chicken named Colonel Clucksworth...

What if he was a bard build to serenade them with his clucking

Liberty's Edge

Have the Chicken be able to Jump and have a flurry of blows attack with their wings. or otherwise get up to nonsence that defies the normal nature of a chicken. It would be interesting if the chicken was actually much smarter that the party give it credit for.

Some class levels would be funny as well.

I like the idea of giving it Bard levels.

"Bawk bawk, BcGACK!" you're all Inspired.

You say this is a Mythic campaign? Maybe a Mythic chicken wouldn't be terribly out of the question?

Dang it, Thalantyr, this has happened to too many of your apprentices to be a coincidence. {sigh} Here, hold my turnips while I dig out my notes on that antichickenator spell...

I've always thought of chickens as summoners... lay an egg, next round it hatches and out springs...

Whatever. :D
