AP for group

Advice

Hi Guys/Gals

Looking for some advice, I am sure somebody has an updated list of the best ones...

Looking to run a new AP for the group.

I did a survey amongst them and this is what they pretty much said:
1. must have a good story
2. engaging, challenging, but not stupidly death dealing.
3. NPC's should be well rounded
4. Not always a dungeon crawl
5. Not always into political intrigue.

I was considering :
1. Carrion Crown
2. Council of thieves
3. Wrath of the Righteous
4. Jade Regent.

I was thinking Rise of the Runelords, but looking at starting that for another group I DM for.

We cant play Mummy's Mask or Shattered star, as we have played shattered star, and half the group are starting in Mummy's Mask in a few weeks time.

Comments/ suggestions most welcome.

Wrath of the Righteous has a good plot and characters, but mythic becomes more and more broken the higher level you get. Unless you're up for having to do increasing amounts of rebuilding then I'd recommend skipping it.

Sovereign Court

Jade Regent might work out though as GM you might have to tailor some things. Overall I am enjoying the AP a lot right now as a player.

Hi FractalLaw / Pan

FractalLaw, Can you let me know what you mean by rebuilding ? the AP/Adventure at the higher levels ? Is that what you mean ?

I really havent looked at any of the rules for Mythic yet.

The one they picked (I scrambled the names to see how they would go) was skulls and shackles, but I am not reading a lot of love for this AP.

I have a friend who is running it and says its very sandbox, and having to throw in random things for the group to do...

Dark Archive

I am currently running Jade Regent. It's the first AP I've run (I am new to PF so my opinion is very limited) and everyone is having a great time and loving the AP. We are starting the second book and so far it seems to have a very nice balance between dungeon crawl and role playing/investigation quality to it. Again total newb here so I don't have the experience other posters do but we are loving this AP.

I was going to suggest Mummy's Mask because I am GMing a campaign currently and it is a great deal of fun with a mix of different interactions the players can run into. But then I saw what you said so I will have to suggest Carrion Crown.

The abilities of mythic PCs vastly outstrip what the Wrath of the Righteous designers were planning for. You'll need to start heavily buffing everything by the third book to even present a modicum of a challenge for your PCs and will have to completely rebuild every encounter by the 6th book. I've got PCs in my game who can do more damage in a single crit at level 17 than the final boss of the campaign has for for health as written.

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Personally, I love me some Skull and Shackles and I believe it hits the majority of your players wants

Looks like jade regent it's the way to go..

Seems to get a good review...

Thanks for the advice everybody...

Most appreciated

By tailor I mean you might need to put elements in to interest the players more. I find that this is a good thing but its also a little bit of work. For instance, if you have a ranger who has evil outsiders as an enemy maybe try and work those in for some random encounters. Also, if a player picks an AP trait and wants to RP with a particular NPC make sure they get the opportunities to do so.

One thing to take a good gander at are the caravan rules for JR. I didnt run the campaign or seen them yet but heard they are not the best as is. Many folks either modify them for easier running or ditch them altogether. The great thing about running an AP is the subforums are a wealth of info to help you make your game better. I suggest you use them often.

Cheers.

Will do...thanks for your help

Cheers

I'm surprised that no one recommend Iron Gods...

One of the best storys i've ever seen for an AP.
