Hello Paizo boards. I have have to come to call upon the knowledge of all you geniuses. I am in a two player game of Rise of the Runelords and have already started and my character is doing well. However the second player is terribly weak so I am looking for an over powered gestalt build. Gestalt is legal in my game but the second player is choosing not to do so because it is "cheating" and would ruin the character even though they have nearly no backstory. I want to be able to hold my own in combat singlehandidly because the other player is not much use. Also, I am a decent beginner so the more you can spell out the better.

Most APs are built for parties of 4.
Even in gestalt you are hampered by action economy.
Your unwilling friend is gonna be slaughtered and even with 2 gestalt characters will be behind big fights in action economy.
But my vote is for a Halfling Beastmaster ranger// warpriest....go mounted combat on a dire bat, roc, or giant gecko.
By level 5 you will have your core feats: mounted combat, ride by attack, spirited charge, power attack, and wheeling charge. I recommend that order. But you will have insane abilities for mounted combat. Just make sure the friend builds tanky too. I recommend a slumber hex shaman for him since he is going 1 class.

First, I would ask your GM if instead of going gestalt, he would allow you each to play two characters (or at the very least your main character plus a minor character/cohort akin to leadership). This would help with the action economy issues you will soon be faced with as well as mitigate your friend's aversion to gestalt.
Regardless of whether you are gestalt or playing more than one character, make sure you have your bases covered (healing, buffs, damage, battlefield control, and skills).

I prefer hammer, anvil, and arm.
When it comes to healing and skills those can be handled in a variety of ways so a person does not need to be shoved in a spot for perceived balance.
I probably should have mentioned, that not all of what I mentioned will have to come from classes. Though, the more of it you gain through class abilities, the more funds and other resources you have for boosting your bread and butter.
