Multiclassing Sorcerer with Prestige Dragon Deciple

Rules Questions

I'm a little confused about how leveling with prestige classes work.
In my current campaign I'm a level 8 character. 7 levels in Sorcerer, 1 level in Dragon Deciple. It says that whenever I level in Dragon Deciple I get credit for Sorcerer levels too but only in specific ways. The online program I use to keep track of all my stats doesn't handle prestige classes very well but a friend of mine says that every other level after 1st level my prestige class gives me a sorcerer level as well. So basically he's saying levels 2, 4, 6, 8, etc count as sorcerer levels as well. But the book is giving me different information.

Basically here's my question: If I continue to level only the prestige class, will I never be able to cast higher levels spells because my sorcerer levels aren't increasing? Right now I can only cast 3rd levels spells and am one level away from casting 4th level. Will taking a 2nd level in Dragon Deciple allow me to cast 4th level spells? And if so how often does the Dragon Deciple levels count as sorcerer levels?

Your friend isn't right in how the Dragon disciple works. A dragon disciple adds his level to his sorcerer levels for bloodline powers. It's not every other level. Then your spell casting increases according to the table for the Dragon Disciple. So at level 2,3 and 4, you cast as a sorcerer one level higher. So Sorcerer 7/DD 2 casts as an 8th level sorcerer.

So then at 7/3 I'll cast as a 9th level Sorcerer, 7/4 I'll cast as a 10th level sorcerer, 7/5 won't count, and then continue from 7/6 as a 11th level sorcerer?

That means I'll be able to cast higher levels spells right? Not just increasing the number of times I can cast my current ones?

Yes you can cast higher level spells at the right caster level

Awesome. Thanks guys.

I think that is how I linkify something...

You will also gain spells known from your bloodline as if you were a full sorcerer. Though, you may be unable to use some of them if you can't cast spells of a high enough level.

What about bloodline spells? Like will I ever get fear or form of dragon I from the sorcerer? Or since my sorcerer level is only level 7 I'm stuck with what I got? The spells, not the abilities.

The Blood of the Dragons ability has specific rules for bloodline spells.

Any other prestige class and you'd be stuck with what you had at 7th

That covers bloodline powers, not spells. I'm wondering if the "+1 level of existing arcane spellcasting clas" only includes the level of spells I can use and spells I can cast per day, or if I can get the bloodline spells that I automatically get from leveling up the sorcerer class itself.

Basically I'm wondering if at level 7/3 (which would count my sorcerer as level 9 when it comes to spellcasting) do I get the bloodline spell Fear?

As I said-- this is covered under the Blood of Dragons ability

Quote:
This ability does not grant bonus spells to a sorcerer unless he possesses spell slots of an appropriate level. Such bonus spells are automatically granted if the sorcerer gains spell slots of the spell's level.

He already answered this.

No you do not ever get more Bloodline spells for levels in Prestige Classes that grant +1 level spell casting, because Bloodline spells are not part of the spellcasting. It is an additional feature of the class and you will never gain new ones until you gain new levels of Sorcerer directly.
