Also, based on my experience with summoners, a duergar could just avoid spells with saving throws and be all right...

Summoners are a whole other bag of artichokes, though, because their spell levels only go to 6th. Look at sorcerers or oracles! Those poor bastards are basically required to max out their Charisma at every opportunity. They need to buy at least a 15 at first level, and by 18th, they'll need the equivalent of a 23. And just forget about bonus spells!

Bards are a bit better off, though they use their Perform skill often enough that a constant -2 is probably a bit grating. No biggie, though.

I think D&D and Pathfinder take a "good is rarer than evil, and thus should be more powerful to preserve balance" approach.
It's more that tradition is represented by lone heroes against the masses of evil.

I take the view that the PCs should be those lone heroes.

If there is any alignment that is overly favored, its Neutral.

In my experience, Aasimar while cooler, are actually a bit subpar in comparison to the Core Races, from level 3 or 4 onward. +2 Wis and Cha are generally seen as the worst stats to have bonuses for in general, and the Daylight and Energy Resistance just don't really matter too much outside the earliest levels.

Tieflings on the other hand tend to have stats that are great for a lot of classes and builds while getting a penalty in the one most need the least. Fire Resistance alone, even at 5, is pretty nifty to have, and Darkness can remain useful for a while against the right enemies.

something something evil is flawed

and good luck at justifying a racial -2 in ANY stat in an aasimar considering their Outsider ancestors

^You could say the same for Tieflings. I wouldn't, but the argument holds.

By the way, with respect to fluff, Tieflings are not Kill on Sight in fairly large regions of Golarion, although they do tend to suffer an awful lot of discrimination (including enslavement in some places).

And what's up with the quotes getting fried in my earlier post? I could have sworn it looked okay right after I posted it . . . .
