I was in a conversation recently at my local PFS venue and we got to talking about Wizards and illusion magic. I brought up Gaara from Naruto who controls sand around him to create armor, a protection bubble, forms sand to blind, slam, and grab opponents and it got me wondering if there's actually an effective way to recreate him in Pathfinder.
My initial thoughts would be a red headed gnome with the Effortless Trickery feat to maintain an illusion of a sand wall for cover or etc. as a swift action while being able to move and cast other spells. Someone mentioned that one of the classes from the Occult book could work also. The idea would be to use illusion magic, earth spells, and shadow conjuration/evocation to create creatures/objects/and effects with sand and earth. Anyone care to give a shot on how to best create someone that uses the element of sand to fight for him/her?
Just wondering how to recreate this character just for fun and flavor.
Nothing really from pathfinder yet. There are some magic items and a few spells. If you have access to the 3.5 splat book Sandstorm I believe, there are lots of options within to help you recreate Gaara.
One prestige class was called Sand Shaper I believe.

I'd say Earth + Air kineticist for sandstorm composite powers,

Human Synthesist summoner basically, the armor of the sand would just be his eidolon. Spells like Spell turning are perfect to represent counters, Hungry pit fluffed to be like sand coffin or whatever. Don't forget to give approriate evolution to the eidolon to do whatever you want to represent.
If playtest is available:
Human Kineticist with earth element. Not much to say there, it literally covers everything.
If 3pp is not a problem:
Elan Shaper (from dreamscarred psionics), Inertial armor for shield of sand, Ectoplasmic cocoon = sand cocoon, Biofeedback for armor of sand, Sand coffin with whatever telekinetic psionic powers are out there etc...
The kineticist is for anime.

I used a Bard for fun. Due to his Prc he adds any sorc/Wiz spell to his spell list.
Just reflavored spells to be sand themed.

Snowflake wardance is adds Cha to hit for a bardic performance for a free action for ranks in rounds.
