John Coffey from The Green Mile

Conversions

Like the subject line says, I want to make a character based on John Coffey from The Green Mile. I'm thinking he needs to be a shunned race in Pathfinder, half orc might be best, maybe full orc. Maybe half giant if there's a conversion available for them.

For class I'm thinking paladin to represent both his good nature and his healing ability. Oracle would work too because his personality and supernatural abilities are the key to the character, as I recall he never gets into a serious fight other than to grab the warden to heal him and to show him the real killer. I'm thinking he should have high Str, Low Int, high Cha.

Any additional insight would be helpful, especially regarding feat and skill choices. The character will probably have not been arrested or facing charges, but will always be a possibility because of the combination of his race, size and low intelligence.

Life oracle fits the character best, I think. There's no exact match for when he takes the sickness of another character into himself and holds it for a while, but it's still probably closest.

After thinking about it, I'm leaning towards life oracle myself. I don't need an exact mechanical match for everything, just trying to match the feel of the character. I'm thinking I could bring him in and have the rest of the PCs save him from a mob or be friends with a PC who vouches for him.

I think the bigger challenge is getting the race right. He has to be something that's big, strong and scary to the average villager. I keep coming back to half orc, but I like demon spawn Tiefling or Suli for the stat arrays.

Half orc is pretty good for an oracle, especially as they get the best alternate FCB for a spontaneous caster (one additional spell known).

I was thinking Oread but they take a CHA penalty so no-go for Oracle, although since they get WIS they'd make a great Life Shaman as an alternative. Maybe even a mouse as a spirit companion?

A high WIS can indicate patience while his low CHA is because no one can relate to him.

Scarab Sages

Does your game allow psionics? While it isn't really my cup of tea the way Pathfinder-ized psionics have gone so far, Vitalist would be a great fit for this.

@IHIYC: No psionics, but I may talk to the GM about it because that does look like it would fit really well.

@Grey_Mage: I love the mouse companion, and you have a good point about the wisdom, but I think John's a spontaneous caster. I can't see him preparing spells every day, I see him saying "Yeah, boss, I can do that." or "Nope. Can't do that, boss."

SIN EATER INQUISITOR

Burden of Sin (Sp)

At 14th level, a sin eater may spend a full-round action to transfer one harmful affliction, condition, or spell effect from another creature to herself (this includes curses, possessions, and permanent effects such as petrification, or any condition that break enchantment can end or reverse). The effect to be transferred is chosen by the sin eater and affects her as if she were the original target, continuing its duration (if any) and preventing any further effect on the original bearer. For example, the inquisitor could transfer a lethal disease to herself, or petrify herself to restore a petrified comrade. The sin eater can use this ability as often as desired, even using it multiple times on the same creature.

Of course, as fitting as this is, 14th level is probably not where you saw yourself starting. Hope it helps though.

@DominusMegadeus That ability is a perfect fit, but as good a fit as it is, the inquisitor just doesn't feel right to me for John. I might be able to convince my GM to substitute it for something else though.

Thanks for pointing it out and thanks to everyone else who chimed in too. There's some really good ideas here, and I'm sorry if it seems like I'm putting a moving target out there, that's mainly because I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I see him myself. Thanks to you guys I have a much better idea of how to put him into a PF character than I did this morning.

Perfect, hadn't seen that spell before. Thank you very much, makes the decision easy.
