Did they nerf eldritch heritage (arcane) granting spells?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

title said it. heard about this but have no confirmation, any help is appreciated.

I think they finally clarified that the spell remains a sorcerer/wizard spell, so that unless you've got a way to cast sorcerer/wizard spells you're simply picking up a spell you have no way to ever use. At least that's how I remember it, I might be wrong.

That's covered in this faq

Basically, adding spells known doesn't allow to cast said spells unless they're on a list you can cast from.

thx all

That all said, your GM may still allow it. It is a three feat investment after all.

If you are paying three feats for it. Most of the time i saw it pop up pre-nerf was in Half Elf Paragon surge builds, where they'd use it to have easy access to the entire Wiz/Sorc spell list.

Ya, now those builds are called Shamans.

Indeed, or Spirit Guide Oracle if you want to throw out any need for wisdom and exploit a lore spirit with criminal efficiency. Lore spirit + Lore Mystery: Sidestep Secret & Mental Acuity has to be one of the SADdest things there is.

Spirit Guide Oracle picking Arcane Enlightenment doesn't work RAW, as they do not prepare spells sadly. I truly wish it did though as it would be a good fix for my old Paragon Surge -> IEH oracle.

I guess. Although my group is usually pretty RAW-abiding for convenience, I have to say that it strikes me as pedantic to the extreme to say "well they don't have to prepare their spells ahead of time, so they don't know those spells" - particularly since 'spells known' and 'spells they may prepare' mean exactly the same thing in the context of a class where both are relevant. Anyhow you're right that it's a potential RAW sticking point, I've just not seen anyone even think twice about it until now.
