I'm curious, with the Advanced Class Guide, what classes/builds are currently the most appreciated by near-purely fighter characters to have around for buffing. How much is the Brown Fur Transmutist appreciated? How handy is the fortune/cackle witch? I kinda want to build a character that has as close of a relationship as Medic and Heavy in Team Fortress 2 in terms of fluff.

Brown fur is a good type. At 9 they become one of the best buffers around.
Investigator/alchemist are under rated as buffers. The discovery to share always seemed like a tax to me but its worth it.
Evangelist cleric is downright the best.
Bards are still a thing.
Skalds are great in the right group. Some classes dont mesh with the rage. Some really excel with it.
Shamans are deceptive with buffing potential but are stronger than the witch at it.
It all really depends on the group make up.

Does it have to be from the Advanced Class guide?
Once my Bard hits 7th level he will look like this.
Longspear with Banner of the Ancient Kings attached
Flagbearer feat
+12 or more to Initiative.
Flagbearer grants all allies within 30 feet a +2 Morale bonus to Attacks and Weapon damage.
I might not beat all of my allies with a +12 Init bonus but I probably beat the enemies and most of the melee types.
Inspire Courage as a move action granting a +3 Competence bonus to all attacks and weapon damage. There are some save bonuses in there as well.
That is +5 to hit and damage in all battles without even using a spell.
As a Standard action my options include Haste, Glitterdust, Grease, or Blistering Invective (Intimidate all enemies within 30 feet) and I have Saving Finale + Lingering Performance to allow rerolls to saves without losing the Inspire Courage bonus.
I also am pretty strong and get those same bonuses so will often use my Combat Reflexes to trip enemies making them easier to hit.
I don't know anything about Team Fortress but that is some serious support.

Totally. "Infuse" alchemy discovery? Options/Potions for everybody. Not to mention, the Investigator is the ultimate skill monkey. Most rogues build for DEX, but a high Int investigator not only gets almost as many skill points, he can roll a dice to add it to certain skill checks. He can take "expanded Inspiration" to get access to a bunch of others. Free action, no cost, add d6 to skill checks (for whichever ones you can, at least). I like making a poison crafting Mastermind, who kinda kicks back watching the fight. Ranged study, crossbow. Timed strike+focused shot. Inspired strike, Amazing inspiration. (also known as Kill-stealer in some circles)

I'm not sure that would work, reading the text for the ring of spell knowledge it seems like even for out of class list spells its still restricted to arcane spells, and mighty strength appears on no arcane spell lists.
