I've just recently got a manuel to let me make a clay golem, and my Dm agred that i could use it to create a shield version golem if i wanted.
This dude costs 67000g. I'm reasonably freaked out about the whole "if you ever drop to zero its instanatly dead" thing becasue my DM has been known to break our money sinks
Any smart precaussions i can take to help keep this guy alive? i already have a elemental acid rod so i can slam him with a acid fireball or acid ray's if he starts to get low, but im still worried he'll get whacked between my turns and i'll just have pissed away 67000g.
Any help? I'm a level 4 sorcerer/3cleric/6theurge (so overall level 10 sorcerer 9 cleric). Obviously not a power character, no early entry or traits were allowed.
Cheers

The memory of function spell can restore a destroyed construct provided that you have all the pieces. It's 10,000 gp per cast, but that's still better than crafting a new one.
Apart from that, keep it out if harm's way, same as if you had a magic item too powerful to repair. On the bright side, as a golem it's much easier to heal than most constructs and immune or resistant to many common damaging effects.

You could also add more HD or the advanced simple template to it:
Note: The market price of a golem with more Hit Dice than the typical golem described in each entry is increased by 5,000 gp for each additional Hit Die it possesses beyond the standard for its kind, and increases by an additional 50,000 gp if the golem's size increases. Building a golem with the advanced simple template increases its cost by 15,000 gp.
If money permits. Otherwise keep some make whole at the ready.

Faking a negative hp border with proper programming might help a bit. Simply make the golem perform an emergency shutdown once it gets below a certain threshold. Assuming he doesn't suffer what any of the players might as well encounter - that is getting hit so much in a single hit to go from half hp to very dead - that should save the construct from being truly destroyed, instead making it wait until you can fix it enough. Of course it has the downside of cutting his effective hp with which he would keep fighting.

I'm curious as to why you would want this thing? Sure it would impress the peasants, but CR appropriate encounters will likely ignore it or destroy it fairly soon, especially as you advance into the upper teens.
Fluff reason: one of the higest levels of being a arcance caster is making a golem! In lore/fluff its highly renown as one of the top tier caster achievements
Game reason: Guard (Ex)
If ordered to do so, a shield guardian moves swiftly to defend the wearer of its amulet, blocking blows and disrupting foes. All attacks against the amulet wearer take a -2 penalty when the shield guardian is adjacent to its master.
Shield Other (Sp)
The wearer of a shield guardian’s amulet can activate this defensive ability if within 100 feet of the shield guardian. Just as the spell of the same name, this ability transfers to the shield guardian half the damage that would be dealt to the amulet wearer (this ability does not provide the spell’s AC or save bonuses).
Those two abilities are amazing! I'm by far the most squishy one in the party so this ability to extend my life is very very useful.

Great idea, simple and hopefully effective :)
