On Pirates Favor, it says when you discard it to add a die to a check, if the check has swashbuckling then you can play another blessing. But the Pirates Favor card has swashbuckling itself. So doesn't using it that way add swashbuckling to the check, therefore letting you always play another blessing?

Cards only give their traits if they explicitly say they do (add 1d4 and the Fire trait) or if they're an item that says "For your check..." like weapons and spells. Mostly, I'd imagine that Swashbuckling trait exists to screw you over when a bane shows up that makes you recharge, bury, or display a Swashbuckling card. :D

Only the card you use to determine what skill you are using automatically adds its traits to the check. Other cards have to say they add a trait to actually get that trait.
Edit: ninja'ed!

Or to help you out. I recharged my Pirate's Favor last night upon closing a location that said you may recharge a card that has the pirate or swashbuckling trait from your discard pile.
