Even with limited spells per day you'll do fine. Make sure you fill up on encounter-enders early on (colour spray, sleep) and carry a big bunch of scrolls around. Scrolls are cheap and many remain useful even with dismal saves/CL. Carry a crossbow. Grab a wand if you are still consistently running out of spells by level 3. Invest in craft wondrous item and early pearls of power.
Also, remember that at level one you have the same BAB as a monk, summomer, etc.
carry a melee weapon, and don't be scared of using it if retreat is not an option. At level three, you become pretty powerful. Secong level spells are stronger than first, and your HP should be high enough to survive a few hits.
Buy a guard dog; they're cheap and expendable.

It will be tough at start but after 5th level, they really shine. So the first thing is supporting your group. Just carrying a few alchemist fire or carrying around a dagger in your hand will make the group rogue happy when they flank the bad guy that is in your face.
What race are you playing? That can make a big difference. If you can crank Int to 20, then you have some wiggle room. You can have two spells memorized and one slot left open in case you need to do something like identify or read a strange language. Just take a few minutes to memorize what need at the time rather than memorizing X when you needed Y.
