Kobold Tail Attachments

Rules Questions

Hello!
One of the people I play with recently got a book on Kobolds (http://paizo.com/products/btpy937g?Advanced-Races-6-Kobolds) has been building a character, but our group is having a debate over one point.
Does using Kobold tail attachments count as a light weapon, or does the tail attack still count as a natural attack?
Let me know if you need more clarification, and I appreciate the help.

A kobold with the Tail Terror feat can slip this device over the tip of his tail to augment his natural attack. Each tail attachment provides just enough weight, balance, and striking power to increase the damage of his tail slap. While a kobold is wearing a kobold tail attachment, its tail attack deals the tail attachment damage, and some attachments gain a special feature. Tail attachments are light weapons and can be improved by feats that can improve weapon attacks (such as Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization).

There are five types of common tail attachments. All kobold tail attachments make up a kobold tail attachment weapon group that can be improved by the fighter's weapon training class ability. Tail attachments can be constructed of special material and made into masterwork or magic items.

Thanks, but I've read the description. The problem is, how is it interpreted? The tail attachments are light weapons, but the problem is it mentions that it augments the natural attack. Another argument is that the base motion is the same, so it should still count as a natural attack.
How is the description supposed to be interpreted? That's what I need.

They are light weapons. The kobold does not have a tail slap attack naturally. Your GM could house rule it as a natural attack, but that means a -5 penalty when the kobold uses any weapon. Tail slaps are naturally secondary attacks, so even if they do use claws or bite or some other form of natural attack, they still have a -5 to hit. Seems better to leave it as a light weapon they offhand.

That is an interesting concept, "main" hand a 2h weapon and off hand the tail.

Alrighty. Thanks a bunch!

The way I read it is that they change the tail slap into a light weapon.

Compare it to the ratfolks tailblade from the same book(ARG) and you'll see how that weapon clearly stays a natural weapon. "Ratfolk are considered proficient with such attacks and can apply feats or effects appropriate to natural attacks to tail attacks made with a tailblade. If used as part of a full attack action, attacks with a tailblade are considered secondary attacks."

Not legal; same reason you can't do Greatsword + Armor Spikes

Yep, you need a weapon that allows it, like the sea-blade. "A sea-knife can be used as a light melee weapon when the wielder is swimming, flying, or prone. This allows the wielder to use a two-handed weapon, or wield a weapon with one hand and carry a shield, and still make off-hand attacks with the sea-knife."

And sea-knives are irritatingly hard to use.

That said, here, "Tail attachments are light weapons" reads to me that they become weapon attacks. I can see where the natural argument comes from though.

Okay. We appreciate the clarification!

Boot Blades and Barbazu Beards are still an option.

I downloaded that there book and didn't find anything on tail attachments except for the Tail Sconce. Where are you seeing the tail-weapons?

Kobold Tail Attachments are from the Advanced Race Guide. They are also here on the PRD.
