A new GM is coming into our little gaming group tomorrow and he's running the 2nd edition Castle Ravenlot module. Just so happens that was the last module I ran before taking a 20 year break from gaming and the first time I ever had a tpk as a GM. I can't wait to go back for a little of that old time gaming.

I played that module once and had a blast all the way through it.

It's one of my faves. I ran it twice as a DM but this will be the first time I've gone through as a player. I'm pretty excited.

I remember that module. Our party thief and I slipped in during the day to explore and wound up running for our lives up the ramp as it was being raised and had to jump for it. Missed the far side by a fingernail's width and survived the plummet only due to an ingenuous casting of web. Still took some 30 points of falling damage and spent several turns trying to get free of the sticky stuff.

I've played that module several years in a row, run by a friend who runs it as a condensed one-shot for Halloween. In recent years, he's run it in DungeonWorld, D&D Next, and Fate. I wasn't able to do it this year, but it would have been in 5e. It's never felt the same twice.

Originally ours was going to be on Halloween but a couple of our players have young ones so we put it off for trick or treating. I also have the 3.5 edition of Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. After this game I'm going to convert it and run it for the group using Pathfinder rules.

I have this and would love to run it, but my guys just don't seem to enjoy module type games. I also have "Expedition to the Demonweb Pits" and "Expedition to Castle Greyhawk". I only recently discovered "Expedition to Undermountain" and now I can't find it for less than fortune. I'd love to run them all.

I now end my slight derail and return you to your thread.

I was disappointed with the “Silver Anniversary” 2nd edition update to the original Ravenloft module. The text of the module was just ported directly over from "House of Strahd", which would have been okay if they had included the maps from House of Strahd as well... See, there are little differences here and there between the maps to House of Strahd and the original maps from 1983; not to mention, the rooms are keyed differently between the two as well.

If you also have House of Strahd, it is a minor annoyance, but I can see it as being a pretty big issue if one never picked up House of Strahd...

Our thief died. My dwarf fighter is still alive but has been seperated from the group and that was where we left off. I hate ending on a cliff hanger especially when it involves me.

I ran more of the original 1E adventure back before Halloween for our group. We run a session of it when we get together for our annual extended game weekend. We were using Labyrinth Lord/BECMI as the rules engine instead of AD&D. Always a fun adventure regardless of system.

I working on the getting my 2nd edition team up to level. They are around 5 right now but when they are ready I'll be running Against the Giants (G1, G2 and G3) followed by Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Shrine of the Kuo-Toa and Vaunt of the Drow (D1, D2, and D3).

I've played these years ago but I've never run them or any module before.

Weapon speed and round to round initiative is awesome.

I just finished running "House of Strahd" simultaneously with "Ravenloft II: The House on Gryphon Hill" (using 2e). The party did not survive, though it was not a TPK...

The group, even though the did not succeed in he end, thoroughly enjoyed playing these old classics.
