Permanency and Animate Object?

Advice

Alright, so I'm new to Pathfinder, so I'm trying to figure out ideas for characters. If somebody could help me to build this character, I'd appreciate it.

The two main spells I want on my character are Animate Object and Permanency. This will allow my character to have a living permanent object. If I could make the object huge, that'd be cool too, but if I can't, that's fine.

I'm not sure what class this character should be. A Sorcerer? A Witch? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I understand not being able to have Animate Object and Permanency right out of the gate. Thank you, and have a good day.

Take a look at the 'Construct' subdomain found in the Advance Players guide. With 8th level you can cast animate object as a domain power once per day. By a scroll of 'permanency' or ask you a friendly wizard with 9th level or higher and you have your permanent animated object.

Alright, so looking at the advanced guide, my modus operandi for this character would be to get the following.

I need a level 6 cleric or bard to cast Animate Object, and I need a level 5 Sorcerer or Wizard to cast permanency, and that would give me a permanent living object at the Cleric or Bard's command. Alternatively, as you mentioned, I could find a scroll to replace either of these things. Would there be any way to enlarge the object?

Permanency is a 5th level wizard spell, so the wizard would need to be 9th level just to start casting it. Scrolling down through the list, he would need to be 14th level to cast permanency on animate object, or the scroll would need to have a caster level of at least 14th.

This is far from a trivial question - your access to a 14+ level NPC spellcaster is likely to be very limited and difficult. Any decent DM would make that into a quest-level undertaking.

Animate objects is a 6th level bard or cleric spell, requiring at least an 11th level cleric to cast it. Don't confuse character level and spell level!

All this shows that you're going to be playing for a very long time indeed before gaining access to animated luggage, or whatever object you're looking for... unless your DM routinely starts players at far higher than 1st level.

The easiest way to do this is to just be a Razmiran Priest Archetype Sorcerer. Bonus points in that if you can get a divine scroll of Permanency, the Razmiran Priest can cast it for free out of a 6th level spell slot. Make *ALL* the Animated Objects. Mind you you'll have to be 14th level to cast your Animate Objects Divine Scroll out of a 7th level slot, but again it's free.

No muss. No fuss.

Ah, see, that was my mistake. I was confusing character level and spell level. Like I said, rookie over here.

So all in all, I would need a level 14 Wizard or Sorcerer to cast a Permanency spell on an Animate Object. As for Animate Object, which would give my character control over the object, I'd need to be a level 11 Cleric or Bard.

So basically, unless the character I'm currently playing dies halfway down the leveling line, don't get my hopes up. Oh well. I guess it's still worth knowing what's in the realm of possibility. Still, it'd be a cool idea to keep on the backburners, or something to work up to. And I still learned something, so hey. Thanks to both of you. :)

Read the spell again. Permanency on the Animated Objects spell requires a minimum caster level of 14. and 15,000 gold pieces in diamond dust as material component cost. That's on top of the spell casting services themselves.

Shaman would work at level 13 provided your GM rules that the Human/Half-Elf/Half-Orc favored class bonus works, since you can add Animate Objects to your spells known from the Clerics spell list at level 13. You can snag Permanency for the day by using Wandering Spirit or Spirit Talker to pick up the Lore Hex - Arcane Enlightenment and selecting Permanency. You'll need a caster level booster, but those are easy to get. Bead of Karma is +4 and is cheap so the caster level that LazarX pointed out isn't much of an issue.

There's also a prestige class you can take that gives access to cleric spells or vice versa. Pathfinder Savant I believe it's called.

Edit: Pathfinder or Arcane Savant. Same PRC, but different names

Permanent animated objects can be dispelled.

For slightly more money you can use the rules in Ultimate Magic to craft Animated Objects without needing specific spells, just a decent spellcraft check. It is slightly more expensive, of course, but you can also add extra construct modifications. The feats required are Craft Wondrous Object and Craft Magical Arms and Armor (as prerequisites for) Craft Construct, which will ALSO let you make golems, iron cobras, and other strange constructs.
