Expanded Narrative boon clarifications

Hi folks,

I finally got my hands on the boon that allows the recharging of GM star replays, and I just want to make sure I am reading it right and check a couple of details. I currently only have one GM star, but I will hopefully have the second one soon. I have not used any replays. So the questions are:

1. Can I start pre-emptively filling it in as I run stuff to have the recharge ready when I need it, or do I need to wait until I have actually used a star before I can recharge it?

2. The sections do not align with the the lines for the scenarios. If the scenario straddling the gap part of star its top half is in, or its bottom half?

3. I can only use one boon per season, but can I use the same boon over more than one season (until such time as it is full, or at least as full as it is going to get in a reasonable time frame)?

4. Relatedly, can I set aside a part used boon in favour of a new one come August (of whichever year)?

Nobody has anything to add? How about an easy one (hopefully):

If I have a star available (recharged or otherwise) and I run something for a second time I have a choice whether I use the star and get a chronicle sheet/XP/PP, or don't and get nothing apart from table credit (and hopefully the pleasure of a scenario well run).

How (if at all) is that represented in the reporting.

1) My read is that You start filling it up as soon as you get it, with scenarios you GM after you get the boon.

2)My read is its the top half.

3) I don't see why not

4) Again, I don't see why not

You should have the GM who runs you through the scenario mark GM star #X Replay on your chronicle. Thats all the reporting that occurs.

Grand Lodge 4/5

1) I believe it's as burkoJames described, since a requirement to leave sessions off the boon until you use a star replay would be almost impossible to enforce and would create perverse incentives not to GM.

2) I'd go by the position of the line, so that one star requires 2 games, two stars require a further 3 games, three stars a further 4, four and five stars each require 5 games.

3a) I don't see anything preventing you, but would like clarification whether this was the intent.

3b) I'd also be interested whether I can take an Expanded Narrative boon granted in Season 6, fill in no sessions before August 2015, then start it in Season 7.

4) You certainly can. Whether you must start a new sheet for a new season depends on the answer to 3).

5a) You always have the choice whether to use your star replays and if you're the GM, you have a choice whether you take a Chronicle or not, assuming you are otherwise able to.

5b) If you take a Chronicle for credit, you or the organiser report that you received credit and ignore the likely warning message. If you don't take a Chronicle, you don't report credit on a character, just as if you didn't qualify for it.

3. I believe you can but you can only use a particular season's recharge boon once per player. So once you have used the Season 6 recharge boon (even if not in Season 6) you will have to get another season's recharge boon if you want another gm star recharge.

Doting this. Hope to get some clarification as well.

Basically, does the Expanded Narrative boon have a time limit to fill up and complete? Can it be pre-filled? And can it be used in future seasons?

I can imagine J.G. Wentworth getting in on this. "It's my star and I need it now!"

Thanks everyone.

@Secane, what does "doting" mean? I've been wondering for a while, and this seems as good a time as any to ask.

Dotting is to put a response in a thread for no other reason than to mark it with a dot in the main forum view, which appears on any thread you've commented on. Makes them easy to track.

"Doting" means adoring or extremely fond of.

So were there ever any answers to this?

*shameless bump*

The Exchange 5/5

Does this boon explicitly have to be used to replay a scenario or can it also be used to apply credit to one of the GM's characters from GMing a scenario a second time that would normally be for no GM credit (other than overall game count)?

1. While it's great to be able to replay, it's hard to find replay games unless you've already played everything. So, the boon is only useful randomly if you happen to be able to find a game that you can play that is actually a replay.

2. Remaining time is short in Season 6 and it is unlikely that I would be able to use the boon now that I have it unless I could use it to take credit for one of the sessions I might typically re-run for no credit, since it can only be used once per season.

Thanks.

GM Stars can be used to re-GM instead of replay, so you're fine doing that. You just can't re-GM AND replay the same scenario/module, it's one or the other.

Just going to post my take on this. This is just my understanding from reading it, and not anything official.

With the first one of these I got, I started filling out immediatly up to the three stars that I had at the time. I waited to fill out beyond 3 stars, until after I earned my forth star, as it made no sense to be able to recharge my 4th star before I even earned it.

I don't intend to fill out beyond the forth star for this sheet as there is no way I'll earn my 5th by the end of season 6.

I just earned a second sheet that I will start filling out with the start of season 7, again I will fill out until I finish the 4 stars I currently have. If I earn my 5th during season 7, then I will start filling out the last lines after that 5th star is earned.

The Exchange 5/5

Got it. Thx.

I think Kigvan has the right idea.

Similarly, here is my plan: I should have my 2nd star soon (next few weeks) and Season 6 is almost over. So, I will (try to) use my 2 replay stars this season and apply credit from 2 re-GM games to various characters. Then, I will (try to) use the boon before GEN CON to apply credit from another 2 different re-GM games, giving me a total of 4 extra credits with star replays and boon. Sweet! Then, in Season 7, I hope to (at least) hit my 3rd star and use the 3rd slot of the boon.

*slightly necromantic bump*

So, now that Expanded Narrative is apparently becoming evergreen, it becomes relevant again. Did any of my questions above ever get officially answered?

Just wished it had been at GenCon, it was what I brought my pile of boons for to trade. But clearly something new is in the winds on how to get this.

Sovereign Court 5/5

its now being given as a gm reward alternative to race boon. least that's how our last con was. expanded narative or assimar

Scarab Sages 5/5 5/5 **** Venture-Captain, Washington—Spokane

Actually, that is now an option for GMs at conventions or events. GMs now get the choice between a race boon and the Expanded Narrative. This is per the weekly blog.

Great. Next on for me will be Swamp on or Caydens Crawl. MegaCon would have been on the list but the planners changed the date.

I can wait that long.

I will have an Aasamir/Expanded Narrative boon for trade after SkålCon

I don't currently know what I would want for it, though.

Yes, but do we know how it actually work yet?

Is the wording on the new version the same, or have they tidied it up?

Once the new CC is in place, I'm sure a clarification will be in the offing.

Sovereign Court 5/5

wording has not changed

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Just got this. Worth tossing the aasimar.

Man, having just 26 unplayed scenarios is the pits.
