Feral Hunter vs. Feral Shifter

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

These two Archetypes show how the Hunter got short changed. Why would you ever choose the Feral Hunter over the Feral Shifter?

The Feral Hunter has better Weapon and Armor(since they can wear metal armor) proficiency, while they only have 6th level spells they could arguably have a better spell list since they gain both Druid and Ranger spells and get them at the lowest level between them(casting Lead Blades from level 1 is pretty good), they are also completely Spontaneously caster which make them better in certain people's eyes, adding Outflank to all of your summons is pretty good along with summoning more with each SNA, and finally the Feral Hunter can apply Animal Focus to themselves all day err day.

Different feel and class restrictions.

I've always liked the druid spell list; kinda loved the idea of an offense one but I don't like animal companions, nor do I like druid's flavor and restrictions.

Feral hunter is kinda exactly what I wanted... Except I felt they should have taken the aspects a step further and added in partial shifting with them.. Like gaining generic natural attacks or senses wit hcertain aspects kinda thing.

Plus I'm pretty sure feral hunter gets more aspects than normal hunter or that druid archetype. Though some people read it differently as well

That's one I've been wondering about actually. Can you activate 1/2 an ability? Because if not, then the Feral Hunter's Focii can't be used in conjunction with his wildshape. It's really not a great archetype anyways; it gives up all of the Hunter's best features for non-synergizing abilities of questionable worth. Sure you can summon two creatures at once, but they have to match your Focus. Hope you didn't want to summon eagles while boosting your CON or DEX! Or maybe you wanted to gain evasion; good news, you can summon not one, but two mice. As a full round action.

It does say "This physical change is a polymorph effect, though the effects of the animal focus are not."

So I would assume it would activate in Wildshape.

I agree that that's probably the intent, but it's a really ugly way of putting it, and I'm not aware of any other ability in the game where you can activate half of the ability without its other half.
