The download usually goes up a few hours before.
I'm guessing it can't be any earlier. They probably finalize the build Wednesday night, then fire it up Thursday, do internal testing, then release the new client for download.
It's just over 1GB so it's not that big of a download. Pretty small by today's standards. It's not like you have to fire it up the night before.

The entire game is smaller than a decent sized patch on any other MMO on the market, really.
Well true though it still doesn't fit the current Aussie governments concept of internet for the masses which is minimal downloads with heavy internet filtering over ancient WWII vintage rusty copper :D

I was about to say that NZ isn't much better, but then I remembered that I have fibre to the door in this new house. :P

I originally heard this over my morning radio but here is an internet article I found on it.

There is no official announcement for this, so don't go quoting me from hearsay.
There is an idea floating around of having a sort of grace period at the beginning of EE (a week?) where if you create a character in that time you get xp retroactively back to if you had started playing at the first moment the EE server went live. It's meant to alleviate the crush of people trying to download the client and start characters as soon as possible.
The devs have had friendly reactions to the idea (no official announcements!) and we know the tech works because all characters in 7.1 had their xp retrograded back to the start of that alpha weekend.
I mention it because if enough of us promise to not break their servers on launch day if we get a brief period of retroactive xp they might go ahead and do the idea.
-----
My own addition: So far the official word is that Destiny's Twins won't be available at EE launch because they're busy with everything else. But if we're able to roll two characters in the grace period who can be retroactively granted identical amounts of xp... it seems like we're most of the way there, right?

Those test are on brand new copper.
I actually have fiber because I am in a NBN trial area however prior to the fiber we could not even make voice calls if it rained.
In my workplace we ran quite a few ISDN connections to remote sites (the last was shutdown 6 months ago) and many were problematic over copper. We had a testing lab based at Wacol in Brisbane and getting any sort of reliable connectivity over the decrepit telstra lines was a nightmare, we even had Cisco US engineers trying to get it to function. needless to say 3G was also impossible to get to work (there are technical issues with 3G with VPN in poor reception areas, Satellite does not work with VPN at all).
Bottom line. The NBN speed over copper thing is only a solution in newer subdivisions and a myth for 80% of Australians and political hype.

If you are not an Alpha backer, or have an Alpha invite, you will not see the "Get Installer Here" button. If you have an Early, Explorer, or Open Enrollment account, you'll probably start seeing it next week sometime when we open access to the forums to those accounts.
You'll be receiving an email with information on how to join the Stress Test and that email has a URL for a download of the installer.
