so disguise self the spell only lets you disguise as creatures of the same creature type, and the charts for the disguise skill only list the penalties for disguising as a different race. does this mean you cant disguise yourself as a different creature?
like can i not buy a bear outfit and pretend im a bear? ive seen some pretty good bear outfits.

thats not much of an answer. as a gm, i would like to know what you are basing that on.
common sense. Once you go outside the rules that's all you've got. If it's difficult for a human to disguise itself as an elf, it is that much more so to disguise yourself as something that's not even humanoid. How big those penalties should be...good luck getting a consensus.

well spells of the polymorph subschool gives you a +10 on disguise checks right? so is the penalty -10? does that mean your standard charisma dumped wizard with a -2 disguise check is always noticeable as a bird?
even if the penalty is only -4 (double the race penalty) that would make him get a +6 on the check, which means almost anyone with a couple ranks in perception could spot the polymophed creature as a wizard. is the result this?: http://pokemonxniccage.com/
if you cant disguise as creatures of another type, since beast shape and such dont actually change your type, does that mean you look like a guy wearing a pretty bad bat costume when yer flying around in bat druid form?
on the other hand, if the penalty is reasonably low, a person maxing disguise could look more like an animal than a druid actually shapeshifting to look like an animal.
these questions might seem silly, but i think they are a pretty glaring problem with the disguise skill.
