What is the purpose of Ranzak's wrecker role power where after you defeat a monster from a location deck, you may examine the top card of that deck; if it’s a boon, banish it?
Why would you want to banish boons? Is this just to be thematic of the wrecker role in which you close locations like crazy, no matter what the cost? Seems like a fairly useless power.

First of all, the power is optional, and you only banish boons. In most cases, situation would dictate if you use this power. Is your location deck full of banes? If so use it. Is your location deck full of bonus? Then hold off on the power, unless you feel like you are in trouble with the blessing clock.
Scouting powers are very important in the game, and Razak's power to peak at a card after combat is far from useless.

Plus, if you're at a location with tons of armor...

(Tongue in cheek humor - I hate armor)
Sometimes you're just not concerned with what the boon is. You may have seen all the boons already from some ability or another, or know from the location card that there aren't any boons in there that you're interested in (like myself and armor).

Since it says add another plunder card, and not to replace it with the same type, you would reroll.
I wasn't a fan of that power when Ranzak first came out, because I didn't know you got plunder under your ship every scenario, so I thought it was a rare occasion when you would get a plunder card as a scenario reward. Now, knowing that you start each scenario with a plunder card, and get more for various reasons, it's actually a very cool power.
