War Priest of Cayden Cailean

Advice

I need help with a character concept for a war priest of Cayden Cailean.

The war priest will have weapon focus in Rapier his gods favored weapon as well as im thinking about Strength as his blessing.

My race will be archon blooded aasimar, ill drop the continual flame spell like for a +2 strength using the variant rules in the blood of angels, which will give him +2 strength, +2 con, and +2 wisdom.

His stats will be 18, 18, 16, 16, 14, 12, that's what the dm gave us before racial bonuses. and the bonus feets for this class i will be taking the weapon spec line of feets and will be retraining to get greater weapon focus at 6th level, like retraining says you can as long as the feat you are retraining is not a pre req feet.

Beyond those feets and the stats im not sure where to go with the character, we are on book 3 of the orison adventure path and are level 8.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Advice Forum would be a good starting point. I've flagged it to be moved over there.

You get 2 blessing domains and Cayden gets these Blessings:
Strength, Chaos, Good, Travel, and Charm

You already picked Strength.

Charm and Good are both great blessings. Because of you high Wisdom Charm would be a strong option as the Charming presence would allow you to wade into groups and not fear being hit as much.
I also really like the battle companion the Good Blessing gives you as "good" creatures or celestial template creatures are easy to pick from more so then the Law/Chaos Companion. Same goes for the Evil side as well...any summoner will tell you evil has some of the best summons.

Travel is super good but I feel mixing it with strength kind of slows your roll.

If it where me I would take Travel and Good or Charm. Your high wisdom Modifier makes the will saves of charm hard to pass. Without your 18+ wisdom I would never consider Charm. But your given stupidly good stats and racial options.

Lemme ask you first, what's going to be the focus of this build? What do you want to accomplish? Healing? Combat control? Frontline fighting?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

You should max out charisma and constitution, then go around felling your foes by vociferously challenging them to drinking contests. Slay your enemies with diplomacy and alcohol!

What does charisma have to do with a war priest? Its mains stats will be Wisdom, Con, and Str. Your on th front lines and Wisdom effects all your other abilities like Fervor, Blessings, spell casting.

War priest: Hey MR. Dragon with your Con of outrageous...I challenge you to a drinking contest.

Dragon: I think I will just eat you. There isn't enough alcohol to get me drunk before your liver dies and I'm more hungry then thirsty....Humanoids are crunchy and taste good with Ketchup.

Heresy! Alcohol solves all problems. You just have to drink enough to become a god, and then the dragon goes away. In the meantime you convince the dragon to drink with you as a way to prepare its palate for the delectably marinated morsel which is yourself.

My main focus of this build will be frontline damage dealer. Im thinking about taking the 2 weapon fighting feats as well.

No...its a trap. Go 2 handed. You will do more consistent damage with a 2 handed weapon.

The problem with 2 weapons is split enchants. Cash lost and the dependency on full attacks. If your wanting 2 weapon type go for slayer.

we were not given these i rolled these and was able to to convince my dm to let me get rid of my spell like racial for an extra stat bonus from the variant race options.

I know I said my dm gave these to me, i missed spoke i meant to say my dm allowed me to take them after rolling them.

I am going to go with charm and strength for this toon.

Can i use my 3rd and 6th bonus feats by using retraining to get weapon spec for my 3rd level bonus feat slot because at the time of retraining im 4th level and at 8th level retrain my 6 level bonus feat to get improved critical.

As long as the feat that im retraining is not a pre req feat i can retrain it, it is under fighter bonus feats.

I am still going to go with Two weapon fighting and double slice unless someone can give me a better option for this character as at higher levels i will be able to do more damage with a rapier doing 7-9 attacks if i go with 2 speed weapons.

i am bumping this post

actually i could go 2 handed and take nodachi 1d10 18-20*2 and not take the 2 weapon fighting feats at all but take the vital strike feats and cleave feats.

You do realize that by using one weapon in each hand you can't cast most spells until you can afford a glove of storing, right? (other than when you use fervor)
