So I was considering the Archaeologist Archetype for my reach Bard, who is half-elven, and wondered if the races favoured class bonus will give me 1 rnd performance per level as the archetype description does go on to say that abilities, feats, etc effect the Luck ability as a bardic performance.
Have I got this all wrong?

Your Half-Elf Archeologist Bard, who is Half-Elven, and a Bard, can indeed improve your Archeologist Luck, with your Racial Favored Class Bonus.
Note this line:
Archaeologist’s Luck is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect bardic performance.

Parroting what has already been said: yes, the Half elf bonus will give you more rounds of luck.
Also of note: according to this FAQ, you also have the option of taking the elf or human FCB.
This is valuable for the Human FCB, which gives you more spells known. As a spontaneous caster, you will always want more spells known. My suggestion is to take the Half Elf FCB until you start learning 2nd level spells, so you can use the human FCB to learn lvl 1 spells. Assuming you take lingering performance (which should be your level 1 feat for an archaeologist, always), and a minimum of 14 Cha, you should have at least 9 uses of luck that last for 3 rounds each. That's 27 rounds of luck, and should easily last you through the day.
