Advice

Hi! I'm Jupiter. I've played 3.5 and more recently Pathfinder the past few years with the same guys. Lately only one of them is on my level (however high or low that is) and I've sorely lacked people to talk to. Happy to be here.

I am currently obsessed with alchemists and have two builds in the air for my next campaign. I always try to plan 1-20 so bear with me; to save you time I'll just go with feat/discovery progression.

First, my 'Scarecrow' build. He's a human Alchemist. If someone can teach me how to link to google docs I have a fully built Level 10 sheet. Until Then:

1. Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Throw Anything, Brew Potion
2. Smoke Bomb
3. Explosive Bomb
4. Immolation Bomb
5. Master Alchemist
6. Explosive Missile
7. Concentrate Poison
8. Dispelling Bomb
9. Confusion Bomb
10. Stink Bomb

He's built to model the terror of Batman's enemy 'Scarecrow' using debuffing bombs and poison bolts to confidently cripple his enemies. Later we'll do things like Madness Bomb and of course, Poison Bomb.

Next we have a character that I can't really model. If Wolverine and Snape had an illicit love child this would be it. He's a human Vivisectionist and from 1-20 we have:

1. Weapon Finesse, Toughness
2. Feral Mutagen
3. Spontaneous Healing (wait for it)
4. Lingering Spirit
5. Master Alchemist
6. Healing Touch (there we go)
7. Sticky Poison
8. Concentrate Poison
9. Bleeding Attack
10. Crippling Strike
11. Bottled Ooze
12. Greater Mutagen
13. Combine Extracts
14. Dilution
15. Extend Potion
16. Grand Mutagen
17. Elixer of Life
18. Eternal Potion
19. Enhance Potion
20. Preserve Organs, Mummification, Philosopher's Stone

Basically a regenerative, death defying Rogue substitute that uses swift (sticky) application of Concentrated Poisons to cripple foes with easy to achieve sneak attacks. This build is my baby right now. I may Bottle Oozes sooner because they're fun flank buddies and hardly notice you when you're invisible. Whatcha think, Paizo Community?

First things first, this kind of thread should be in the advice section.

Looks pretty fun to me. Just remember that using posions as a PC is generally ill-advised. Trust me, I've been trying for years to build a hyper-effective poisoner. Best I've got is a Nagaji Alchemist that goes into Daggermark Poisoner ASAP.

That said.... Just play what you wanna play. In general, if you're running in an AP, you don't need to be optimized to be effective. AP's are built for the party to win, which annoys me, rather than being particularly challenging.

Just... Beware later levels, when things start getting god awfule high fort saves, and pure immunity to poison... Makes me cry.

That's fair! Thanks for telling me; I wasn't really looking for 'advice' though. I honestly had no idea where to put it so 'General Discussion' it went. Anyone else build alchemists and have good experience? I've never run an adventure path.

Multiclassing Alchemists is a blast!

Try throwing in some monk to pair with mutagen if you're looking to go unarmed feral. Grab style feats as well… Dragon especially.

Amy Alchy here will give you some ideas.

You can link google docs by opening the page and on the upper right there should be a setting for who can see it. if you click that you should be able to generate a link.
though probably try be sure to set it as viewable but not editable by others, otherwise anyone can play with the sheet and edit.

Poison is painful to do sadly. You either have to do nearly nothing but poisons or it'll be nearly impossible to keep up.

As to which build, I would say depends on your group.
On a personal level I've had a lot more fun with the bomb version, but i'm not very good at the melee..

A note about poisons and being feral clawy.
There are feats that help it (adder strike, and a feat that builds off it that might be good if you wanted the ability to throw a poison dart or touch attack poison called pinpoint poisoner). But If you wanted to splice in more poison in that build eye ball Daggermark poisoner/Guild Poisoner (different title on differetn websites). They have a special effect that drops your sneak attack damage to up poison DC and give you some poison boosting SLA you could deliver via ammulet of mighty fists with conductive on it. but thats quite a lot of investment for the poison..

Have you checked the Alchemy Manual? I prefer the spontaneous alchemy rules (as opposed to the regular crafting rules) that you find there. There's also some feats that are a great addition to any poison user.

I've had two alchemist characters in total. One is still in play and the other one has become a recurring NPC. Great fun, both of them.

The first one was a Grippli (named Rub-Eta) with two Vestigial Arm and Wings. Now when I DM he often comes back with the Eternal Potion Discovery used with Reduce Person (or sometimes Enlarge Person). Not that he really is at level 16, it's just funny to have a tiny (or medium sized) frog/fly-man running around.

I usally have him getting into verbal fights with the PC's. He's often very offended by what they say and he continues derailing the conversation into very obscure subjects.
He's not the best at insults and his split personality does preform some funny arguments. When he's tired of talking he just pops a bottle and passes out.

The one currently in play is a Human with the Grenedier archtype, focused at bow and bombs. He's about to grow a Tumor Familiar on his tummy to get some company, aside from the killer hobos he's traveling with.
