Looking to build a paladin for a group going through Emerald Spire. He's going to be the group's primary healer (hoping for wands, etc, but we'll see).
He is going to be somewhat of a "masochist tank" -- using his LOH to great advantage.
What I have so far:
Human (Kellish/Sarkorian)
STR14
DEX12
CON14
INT12
WIS7
CHA18
Traits: Blessed Touch, Dangerously Curious
Feats: Fey Foundling, Power Attack
Skills: Diplomacy +8, Kn:Religion +5, Sense Motive +2, UMD +9
Still need to assign his Favored Class bonus, and am not 100% sure about his trait of "Blessed Touch". Was hoping there was something that he could use CHA or INT to overcome his weakness in WIS skills, but that's not a huge deal.
Long term, he'll be in full plate, wielding a 2H weapon (gotta hit hard enough so that he isn't overlooked). Feat progression will be something like: 3: Greater Mercy, 5: Extra Channel, 7: something... ;), 9: Ultimate Mercy
Could go 5: Extra LOH and 7: Ultimate Mercy as well.
Just looking for suggestions right now (and no, I am not going to dump his INT).

Extra LoH are always a handy thing to have. Not really keen on having such a low Wis due to Will saves, though starting second level you get massive bonuses from your Cha mod. Still, I'd personally shave a point from it to shore up your Wis.
Power attack is, of course, utterly fantastic. I would try and squeeze Furious Focus in there somewhere, as with a not-fantastic strength score you will be needing the help on your attack rolls.

You told us what you got, but I'm more interested in what you want.
Is there a certain flavor you want him to have? A specific weapon he should be using? Certain skills maxed out?
Or do you just want a min/maxed paladin with no limitations what so ever?
Also,m what point buy are you using or are these stats as is and can be moved around? Any restrictions on resources?

![]() |

@Mavael He's going to be a tank first, and a healer second.
@Blueluck, we have, at the moment:
Fighter/Knife Master Rogue (only fighter at this time) - going for Butterfly Sting
Artificer Wizard
Dwarf Cleric of Torag (Artifice and Defence domains)
Some sort of "big damage guy"
and a big unknown.
Also, @Mavael, 20 point buy. Stats could move, but I don't want an over-optimized pretty moron... If by resources, you mean PF only, then yes. Pretty much any book from Paizo is fair game.
Ok, more details on what I am planning for him.
He'll be a decent face (honest, using diplomacy... won't lie, etc). He likes to tinker with stuff, and thus will be keeping up with UMD (probably will be the best one for this on the team).
As for weapons, he'll favor 2-handed weapons, but early on he may keep with sword-and-board as he cannot afford heavy armor yet. He's going to be versatile (not getting weapon focus), so that he can make use of anything that we find.
Since we'll be able to craft, I am hoping we can afford to make Bracers of the Merciful Knight relatively early... and this will help him to get Ultimate Mercy at 7. He'll be channeling when it makes sense, so a lot of LOH is good (and I know that they BotMK won't help the channels - but 6X 3d6 is better than 2X5d6 for healing, right?)
Hope that helps?

Try this Melee Paladin Build
Gonna stay a human, but thanks. His ability to deal damage is secondary to his ability to soak damage for the team.

A few quick things - Paladins being my favorite martial option. Are you sure you're locked into Human? Its an excellent choice but I find the Tiefling, when available, is just a little bit better. His FCB for Paladins is out of this world. You'll also get Darkvision and some nice resistances as well as access to the Trait Suicidal which is a must to consider. I just ran something similar to this all the way through Wrath of the Righteous.
I would also suggest that you forget about channeling - its just not that effective as a means to keep the group alive during fights. Your best options will always be to spend your standard actions killing foes who could harm your allies rather than giving them back a fraction of the damage they are taking. Instead load up on Extra LoH and go with an Oath of Vengeance Paladin who will allow you to convert some of those extras into bonus Smites. That combo really makes Extra LoH one of the best feats in the game.
A dip into Lore Oracle would go a long way with helping your survivability while a dip into Life Oracle would give you some neat options, especially if you are willing and able to go with a Tiefling.
I think I could help you more with some other little tricks that will carry you a long way - drop me a line if you want to get into it in more detail.

For a maxed out LOH build, why not go with a Tiefling (favored class self-LOH +1 hp per level) + Inheritor's Light (Iomedae, +1 hp per heal dice) + Greater Mercy + Fae Foundling (as above) + Bracers of the Mercyful Knight.
For every 1d6 LOH you receive, you heal about +4 more.
For example, at lv 8 your LOH is 4d6(1/2 your paladin lv) + 2d6(bracers) + 1d6 (greater Mercy) = 7d6
Thats 7d6 + 14 (Fae foundling) + 7 (Inheritor's Light) + 8 (Tiefling FC)
= 7d6 + 29 hp heal as a swift action each round.
You would almost never go down due to hp. Don't go max armor, invite enemies to hurt you as you literally HP tank for the party. :P

Talked it through with my GM, and we both thought that a demon-spawn Tiefling does fit the story.
STR15
DEX12
CON12
INT12
WIS 8
CHA18
Will keep Fey Foundling as the feat (losing power attack). Should figure out when to get that feat so that he can wrack up the damage. Otherwise, he's really relying on smite to deal damage (and later, Divine Favor).
Traits will probably be Dangerously Curious and Fate's Favored (so that the aforementioned Divine Favor rocks harder).
FCB will go to LOH.
I cannot find Inheritor's Light (feat or trait)?
Other than that, it sounds good.

Inheiritor's Light is a weapon.
Consider the Suicidal Trait.
Take Oath of Vengeance and as many Lay on Hands feats as possible to power both your offense and your defense.
Spell-wise make sure you keep a Heroic Defiance in your pocket at all times and load up on Litanies of Righteousness. Bloodsworn Retribution when you can get it.
With that stat array I highly recommend taking a 1 level dip in Lore Oracle for Sidestep Secret and some bonus spells. That or Life Oracle for life link, letting you top off everybody's hit points between encounters.
Seriously consider the racial options of Fiendish Sprinter and Soulseer.

The weapon does look really good. I don't currently have Inner Sea Gods, but, again, will check with the GM. Does it have a requirement of having Iomedae as your patron -- cause that might be an issue.
Heroic Defiance... an absolute must!
I'll think about Oath of Vengeance (and see what the other folks I am playing with think. They may go for it). That being said, it would prevent me from using Meditation Crystals (could pop off the channels into it the night before we plan to hit the dungeon).
Been thinking about a 1 level dip into fighter, just to get Power Attack. Need to be hitting hard enough to merit people not just buypassing me.
