We're watching Ghostbusters, and as usual these days, I look it up on IMDB. In the trivia, I learn something that assures me the human race is doomed (and rightly so).
Until 1990, Ghostbusters was the highest grossing comedy of all time. It was dethroned by....Home Alone.
Humanity must be destroyed.

I liked home alone. One of the few family films I liked.
Damn shame, what happened to that kid.

Soooo.....you're saying you're in favor of humanity's destruction?

Sad, but inevitable (I think) - I had to "unfollow" my own niece and godchild on Facebook. She expressed support for that socialist piece of s$*&, Bernie Sanders. I would try to show her how she's wrong, but it's not my place to go against what are probably her mother's teachings.
Still, that helps me decide against going in to New Orleans for Thanksgiving. My brother is bringing his wife and kids, and I'd rather not run the risk of embarrassing them by showing them how foolish they are.

Naah, I try not to eat junk food.

Now I understand something of certain peoples' distrust of Facebook - I posted pictures of my kidlets and my brother's kids from out gathering today. The post 'tagged' my brother, even though he wasn't in the pics. We think it was the facial recognition software Facebook uses, and it thought my brother's boy was him. They do share a very strong resemblance.

Not sure if I mentioned this.....
A few weeks ago, when the wife was in Brazil, I had less time to get ready in the morning. So I cut down on the shaving and let a goatee-ish amount of hair grow.
I kept intending to shave it off, but hadn't gotten around to it by this weekend. Since my mom was coming in town, I thought I leave it to torment her with.
Anyway, I finally shaved it off on Sunday night - after everyone else had gone to bed. I wanted to see how long it took people to notice on Monday morning.
No one did.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

On a more positive note - when I was in Walmart the other day, I came across the 4-movie Mad Max Anthology on bluray! Just $50.
Finally got around to watching Mad Max: Fury Road last night. Awesome movie. Very action packed. Simple dialogue. No lengthy introspection or investigation into why the world was the way it was. Just explosions, car chases, fights to the death, weird costumes, and even weirder names.

You made a fool of me,
But them broken dreams have got to end.
Hey, woman, you got the blues,
'Cause you ain't got no one else to use.
There's an open road that leads nowhere,
So just make some miles between here and there.
There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in.
You took my body and played to win.
Ha, ha, woman, it's a cryin' shame,
But you ain't got nobody else to blame.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Rolled in from another town,
Hit some gold, too hard to settle down.
But a fool and his money soon go sep'rate ways,
And you found a fool lyin' in a daze.
Ha, ha, woman, what you gonna do,
You destroyed all the virtues that the Lord gave you.
It's so good that you're feelin' pain,
But you better get your face on board the very next train.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman, how you done me wrong,
But now you're tryin' to wail a diff'rent song.
Ha, ha, funny, how you broke me up.
You made the wine, now you drink a cup.
I came runnin' ev'ry time you cried,
Thought I saw love smilin' in your eyes.
Ha, ha, very nice to know
That you ain't got no place left to go.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.
Evil woman.

Did I unfollow you? I may have. Back when I first did it en masse was around the time of the SCOTUS rainbow decision. I was doing a massive purge of anything remotely political, in an (since failed, but not completely) attempt to clean up my Facebook page and eliminate some negativity from my life. A lot of probably innocent folks got caught in that madness.
I've been meaning to go back through and refollow people, but with everything going on it's been on the low-priority list.

Well, I've never considered myself innocent. ;) And I do have to agree that who you follow has a major effect on your mood. Things got a lot nicer on my Facebook when I got rid of everyone that disagreed with me.
It's tough to walk the balance of entertaining differing viewpoints while avoiding useless negativity.

For me it was a multipart purge. I came to realize I had liked many pages that were bad with the vitriol. Those went first, along with pretty much every politics-related page I had 'liked'. I still post an article every now and then, but none of them pop up in my feed.
Second was an unfriending, but I think that was only like one person. Sad, because he was an old friend. However, the only time he ever interacted with me was to argue on Facebook.
The Great Unfollowing was third, but was only ever meant to be temporary. Until things calmed down in the wake of the SCOTUS Rainbow decision. Too much GRAR on both sides. This bit of back and forth was the incentive I needed to finally take a bit of time (Thank ye gods for meetings) and undo some of that stuff.

Also, while in my comic book store the other day, I made sure to add Frank Miller's new Dark Knight series to my list. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
I am so out of touch with comics I didn't even know Miller had a new Dark Knight going. The first one was incredible. Best take on Batman ever.

It was just recently announced. As for the first one, I agree in part. Definitely one of the best takes on Batman ever. I'm also a huge fan of The Killing Joke (which is also one of the best Joker stories) and Batman: Year One.

Probably going to talk to my supervisor today. See if he's cool with me taking off a day or two, here and there throughout September/October, in order to get more study time in for the PE.
Another guy who's taking the test has been doing something similar, and the supervisor seemed ok with it. That other guy, however, is not the mechanical lead on a major project. I am.
