Several weeks ago, a guy showed up to my FLGS with a cleric of Besmara with an interesting ability I have not been able to find since (haven't seen the player since, either). It's been a while, so pardon the vague-ish description.
Whenever he channeled, he would roll a die and if it was a 1, his channeling would be reduced (by 1 die, I think); if it was the highest value on the die, his channeling would be more powerful (by 2 dice, I think); anything else, he would channel as normal for his cleric level.
I and the others that were there that are in my home game haven't been able to find it, and it looked like something good to put on the cleric in our Skulls & Shackles game. Anyone know what that is?

It's the old Whimsy subdomain
It is from Blood of Angels. Unfortunately it is no longer legal in PFS.
The new version from Inner Sea Magic however is:
As a standard action, you dance, act like a buffoon, or commit some other act of whimsy. When you do, enemies within 30 feet of you that can see and hear you must succeed a Will saving throw (DC = 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + half your Wisdom modifier) or they collapse into gales of manic laughter, falling prone.
Those who fail their saving throws can take no actions other than laughing for 1 round, but are not considered helpless. You can use this ability once per day at 8th level and one additional time for every 4 levels you possess beyond 8th.

It was even worse if you take 1 level of Oracle with the legalistic curse.
You can add +4 to any roll 1/day. Not just d20 rolls, any rolls. So you roll a d6 to see how many dice you add to your channel. Roll 6? Cool, add 4. That's an EXTRA 10d6 channel. Doable as of level 2
roll a d6, add 4, get a 10... 404 error not found. Roll 1 extra die.

On a roll of 5 or 6, you roll 1d6 more dice of damage or healing than you would have otherwise.

Could you walk me through that additional 10d6? The original whimsey doesn't say "add a number of dice equal to the result of a d6." The way I'm understanding the magic, at best, the +4 to the roll would virtually guarantee that the original cleric / oracle would roll a 5 or 6, adding an additional d6 of channeling.
In exchange for a 1-level dip into a class that doesn't do the character very many favors. So, your 2nd level character is, once a day, channelling for 2d6. Most clerics don't get that until ... 3rd level. I hope that boost in power is worth the oracle's curse.

This doesnt even make sense.

Well, a loose interpretation of the original whimsy could lead to his interpretation.
"On a roll of 5 or 6, you roll 1d6 more dice of damage or healing than you would have otherwise."
In stead of rolling an addition 1d6 die (singular) he's reading it as rolling (1d6)d6 additional dice (plural)
On second reading, I think that might be the correct reading. (Of course, on a 1, that means you *subtract* 1d6 *dice* from your channel, which if it happened at the wrong time, could be very, very bad.

BNW, if that was the case, it would say "add 1d6" to your channel (as per pretty much everything else that adds a d6.) It doesn't, it says "add 1d6 dice" (I would even buy it as just being incredibly clumsy if it says "add 1d6 die", but it doesn't, it's plural to boot.)
That said, I think there was a really good reason it was errataed out of existence.

Is there a FAQ on it, BNW? Otherwise, are you basing that on "how we play it around here" or something else? (Honest question: I don't know if there's been a clarification on it.) Because your interpretation ... isn't how the text reads.
Though it seems moot, now that the ability has been replaced with a new one.

Plain language reading= a nifty bonus more or less in line with other bonuses.
Hyper literal reading= a 7d6 channel at first level.
