Wrath of the Righteous: Touched by Divinity, which domain for a barbarian?

Advice

Howdy folks.

Getting ready to make an Angelkin Aasimar Barbarian for Wrath of the Righteous. I saw the Touched by Divinity trait and thought it too good to pass up.

I'm having a little difficulty deciding between the domain spells though.

I figure the barbarian's deity will be either Iomedae or Ragathiel (leaning toward the latter for thematic reasons).

In no particular order:

1) Archon (Divine Favor): I am strongly leaning toward this, and picking up Fate's Favored as my other trait. That would mean ending up with a +4 to attack and damage for one minute, 1/day at level 3. Not bad, effective across the board.

2) Good (Prot. from Evil): A strong contender. Good scaling duration. A non-scaling +2 AC/saves that takes up a deflection bonus only vs. evil things (which will be common, of course, but still). The good part is the immunity to mind control. Will probably see less use overall, but potentially a life-saver.

3) Glory (Shield of Faith): Good scalable duration, scalable deflection AC bonus. Would be good for when I bust out Reckless Abandon to not trash my AC. The bummer is that it would interfere with a Ring of Protection.

4) Destruction (True Strike): Pretty much a guaranteed hit once a day. Interesting combination with Combat Maneuvers.

Anyhoo. If anyone has played WotR before and has a specific suggestion, please let me know. Or if anyone has particularly strong feelings about one over the others, that's great too.

Thanks again,

K

I'll make no pretenses that I know anything about WOTR, but just judging based on the spells, I'd say the Archon and Good options are flip-a-coin-between-them good, with the other two certainly not being *bad*, just not as good as those first two.

Strictly my 2cp.

That seems a fair assessment.

The +2 to hit and damage starting at level one is extremely tempting (going to +4 at lvl 3), but the bonus to saves is very hard to come by.

Decisions, decisions...

Prot/Evil is a resistance bonus. It's the cheapest kind of blanket save booster to get. BY level 8, the spell won't be providing anything but the immunity to a character...like, you know, an ioun stone/wayfinder combo.

The divine favor is useful at all levels.

Having looked into the ROTW traits, it seems like you will be best served by taking the trait that is associated with your intended Mythic path. Are you planning on being a Heirophant? What's your overall goal for your build?

I am sorry to say I have not yet researched mythic paths, I have just skinned out the chassis, as it were.

My general build is for a 2-handed Invulnerable Rager. So, by briefly scanning the paths...I guess Champion or Guardian? I want to deal a lot of damage, but my weakness is going to be my low AC.

My character is going to be a worshipper of Ragathiel with a heavy emphasis on righteous fury (Wrath of the Righteous, after all) and going agressively after the demons. Once more into the breach, etc. etc.

And yeah...assuming I still go with Touched by Divinity, I will probably do Divine Favor.

As a barabarian I highly suggest the Champion route.

Now as for Gods good for a Barbarian well you would be hard pressed not to look at Cayden the CG of strength domain, travel, drinking, fun, freedom...everything a Barbarian loves....Now if you want to choose the prude mega-virgin Iomedae then your not looking for a good time.

i second champion path.

and, divine favor is good (especially with divine favor) but taking the strength domain for enlarge person may be worth looking at too, depending on the rest of your build... it adds no bonus to hit and +2-5.5 damage (1-2 from Str and 1-3.5 increased weapon damage), so divine favor is probably better in that regard but enlarge also gives you reach which should result in a bunch of extra attacks (which are like gold to heavy hitting 2hander builds).

I don't see fitting for a barbarian a Lawful deity

If a cleric of a Lawful Good deity can be Neutral Good and still get the holy juice, I certainly don't see why a Neutral Good barbarian is unfit.

Particularly to a worshipper of Ragathiel.

"Ragathiel's tainted heritage has left him with a wrathful heart, and the angel struggles constantly to master his baser impulses in service to the light."

Seriously. This was made for good barbarians.
