We had some big issues at last night's session with our rogue, so here is the situation...
We had a fight and in the middle of the fight rogue was left with very low hp, so he decided to use retreat, hides himself behind a wall that provided him total cover and heal himself for 2 rounds with wand. After that rogue joins again the battle and he wanted to come out and throw a javelin to a target...
The question is, could the rogue move using stealth skill to pop-out unnoticed so his attack could result in sneak attack against a target?
PS.Of course the target was within his 30ft to sneak attack and just had to barely show himself in the egde of the wall where he would have cover and not walk into the room completely...

Your character never left combat. He used his actions to withdraw and then use the stealth skill to hide. Rounds are still passing and you stay on the same initiative. He would just need to move behind some sort of cover unless he has hide in plain sight (PRD:If people are observing you using any of their senses (but typically sight), you can't use Stealth. )

Yes. What were the issues?
Well some of us were arguing if this can happen, because enemies were actually aware that rogue went behind that wall, but provided him total cover so enemies could not see him, so no stealth needed here...
The problem was when rogue wanted to come out and if he can use stealth to just show himself just a little on the edge of the wall where it would provide him cover to sneak attack. Here is a screenshot:

I dont see a problem with what the rogue was trying. This sort of thing is what rogues should do all the time but since no one else is doing it rogues sort of need to stay in the figth.
He can leave combat and hide and come back when he is ready, but some one Might follow him and then he wouldent really have left.
I suggest you run it like he run out of sigth and then pehaps need a stenalts check on the one he want to sneek attack when he comes back.

The rogue could do that whether he "left combat" or not. If you have cover and/or concealment, you can make a stealth check. If your stealth check exceeds the target's perception check, the target is unaware of your movements and the like. That means you've got concealment against that target. Go right ahead and sneak attack.
