I was thinking about how allowing multiple summons from Summon Monster type spells can slow down a table and was wondering about alternatives.
Would it be overpowered to change the summoning spells where you can no longer summon multiples from a lower list, but you can summon from a lower list and apply the advanced simple template to it? Does anyone have any other or similar options for consideration?

Give the summoner player a set time to do his stuff. The rest doesn't happen. Powers he doesn't remember are ignored. Summoning monsters is an exercise in updating and correlating data.
That feels a bit heavy handed though. It also requires someone to be a time keeper, which doesn't sound fun. I could simply take away the multiple option from the spell with no compensation, but I don't like taking options away without giving other options.

You could also demand that the summons are run by other players, dividing the burden a bit. Generally, looking at the numbers, summoning from two lists down is something you only want to do with a few specific critters, such as lantern archons or aurochs. 1d3 of one level down is okay, 1d4+1 of two down means drowning the battlefield in stuff that doesn't matter. The higher you go in level, the worse this situation becomes, due to lagging CRs (SMIX caps out at CR 14 creatures). If you have a player who knows what he's doing, it won't likely be a problem.
