For me one of the main reasons to go assassin is Hide in Plain sight at lvl 8. That means a lot more Assassin and less scout.
I like the scout's charge ability but as you get higher level you are trading attacks for sneak attack. It is great at low levels but less worthwhile as you gain more attacks.
So if your character concept is more sneaky I would go assassin instead of scout. If you are looking for a frontliner I would drop assassin and focus on scout.

if you're aiming for HiPS, shadowdancer grants it earlier (at the cost of some feats)
alternatively, you could invest those those feats into skill focus (stealth) and either eldritch heritage/improved eldritch heritage (shadow, aiming for the 9th level ability) for HiPS (darkness), and/or hellcat stealth for HiPS (light). you also qualify for dampen presence (basically HiPS: blindsense/sight)
depends on if you want the shadow minion or not (it's relatively useful as a debuffer/flankbuddy, but isn't to be relied upon heavily--it's rather squishy).
