Faerie Dragon familiar

We played a scenario last year at gencon and was able to get the faerie dragon boon (I don't have the paper with me so I don't have any info beyond that). My wife wants to make a new character but can't find out if she can use that faerie dragon or not. Something she read says you have to be level 7 before you can use a faerie dragon, is that the case?

Correct.

The entry from the Bestiary for Faerie Dragon says the following:

Bestiary 3 wrote:
Faerie dragons sometimes ally with spellcasters, serving as curious, occasionally reckless, but always true familiars. An arcane spellcaster of at least 7th level with an alignment within 1 step of chaotic good who has the Improved Familiar feat may select a faerie dragon as a familiar.

So, as long as you meet those three criteria, that chronicle grants you access (as Faerie Dragons are not normally a legal familiar option), with the character that earned the boon.

Scarab Sages

If you are talking about the Riddywhipple boon, I believe that must be on the character it was played with.

Thanks

We were playing with premades then. And what's the point of getting it as a boon if 90% of the character archetypes can't use it? Also we were told then it would be available for later characters.

If you were playing a pregen, you still assigned credit for the game to one of your PCs - the PC that gained credit has access to the Faerie Dragon.

Unfortunately, this boon (along with the others that I can think of that grant access to familiars) *is* PC specific; that said, there are other chronicles out there that grant access to spells or archetypes for *all* your PCs (but they specifically state that).

If the character the boon was assigned to has not played at Level 2 or higher you can take advantage of the rebuild rules and make a witch/wizard/etc in order to take advantage of the boon.

It's a great excuse to GM the scenario and apply it to a character who can actually use it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I love running that scenario!
The other option is to GM 10 games, and then use your replay credit on that scenario!

What scenario is it from?

Hey Nitehood, this is a discussion from the days of Pathfinder 1e. If you are looking to qualify for a Faerie Dragon in 2E, I wrote up a helpful post on that in another thread.

Hmm
