Lizardy humanoids question

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Lizardfolk, serpentfolk, troglodytes, nagji - did I miss any of the non-draconic lizardlike humanoids in Pathfinder products?

Kobolds

I always thought of Kobolds as being vaguely draconic

The Exchange

I think those are the only ones in PF. Of course, if you range back into the mists of time, you'll encounter firenewts, pterafolk (no, seriously!), saurials, ophidians, muckdwellers, sarkrath... it's a squamous smorgasbord!

Vishkanya are sexy snake people with poison abilities.

In standard pathfinder they are small humanoids with the reptilian subtype. They have no draconic abilities or anything so they are definitely non-draconic reptilian humanoids.

From the PRD:
"Due to their physical similarities, kobolds loudly proclaim themselves the scions of dragonkind, destined to rule the earth beneath the wings of their great god-cousins, but most dragons have little use for the obnoxious pests."

"Kobold coloration varies even among siblings from the same egg clutch, ranging through the colors of the chromatic dragons, with red being the most common but white, green, blue, and black kobolds not unheard of."

"Languages: Common, Draconic"

So more than vaguely draconic but I always interpreted this as their own arrogance rather than any actual blood connection to dragons.

Kobold are related to dragons in pathfinder. Its a dnd legacy thing. Even the book about kobolds focus on their 'We're kinda dragon' gig, allowing them to better serve their dragon masters or be dragons themselves, such as Draconic Aspect.

That said, they're ideally arrogant and think highly of themselves and end up being minions because they're well... kobolds, not dragons.

Touché.

I knew there was a reason my subconscious was bugging me about this question. I assumed that PF had ported pretty much everything that wasn't IP over. Guess not. Any others?

I guess they do have scales in the description - they always seemed odd for the sake of being odd to me. People desperately trying to be mysterious.

Scarab Sages

Grippli are frog-like. Don't know if that's lizardy enough for you.

They are based on Vish Kanya. I believe the snake motif was started by pathfinder itself, though Rakshasa themselves take on animalistic characteristics in some stories, including serpentine, if I remember right.

Of course this being an uncommon race and about poison, which pathfinder has rules set up against the use of, you probably won't see much Vishkanya in play.

Surely you mean PFS rather than Pathfinder in general?

No, I mean poison rules themselves are pretty bleh. Not great scaling and can be expensive.

Ah. Gotcha.

Wasn't sure if you meant rules set against use of uncommon races, or against poison use, or how you meant "rules set against use of".

Yeah, poison use isn't a very effective tactic
