To the PFO Community at large,
Let me begin by stating that the current divisions/members of the Empire of Xeilias fully agree with this Pledge. The reason for our apparent tardiness in signing it is that many of our members have quoted Wheaton's Law in the past, including on these forums, so I suspect few of our members saw the need to pledge to a code of behavior that they have already been living up to in other existing games. Also, our members are already bound to a far more specific standard. Here is the pertinent portion of the Empire of Xeilias Charter which we are still placing the finishing touches upon.
2.4.e Integrity- Players have a right to be free from griefing. While most online games are about war, the Empire of Xeilias is against the griefing of other players. In addition to the harassment and verbal abuse rules, Empire of Xeilias members will conduct themselves with the utmost honor in all aspects of the game related to PVP combat. This includes the ban on the initiation of combat on zoning or link-dead opponents as shown in the practice of corpse camping, graveyard camping, or the like. PVP combat between different levels (i.e. higher level player attacking a lower level player) or different numbers (i.e. 10 players attacking 3 players) is considered standard PVP tactics that regularly occur within the rules of fair-play. Xeilias will not ally or go to war with any guild who does not agree to our rules of engagement. Our policy is to avoid griefing players, or destroy them through combat, rather than to complain and engage with them in any argument about fair-play.
The Empire of Xeilias holds its citizens to a high standard. Just as we must set ourselves to a higher game-play standard, so must we set ourselves to a higher level of integrity within the community. EoX citizens will refrain from comments that could be construed as inflammatory or leading to the defamation of other players or organizations. They will conduct themselves with the utmost honor in all aspects of the game, to include: message boards, private messages, and in-game public and private chat channels. The conduct of every single individual Xeilian reflects on the entire Empire and thus we must uphold our most sacred ideals and traditions of fair play and honest dealings. When an incident occurs where the honor of an individual Xeilian or the Empire is called into question, the Xeilian should report the incident to their XIS chain of command for consideration and action. We trust that all of our members will not stoop to using intimidation or coercion on other members of the Pathfinder Online community, and we expect to be treated fairly and with respect in return.
With that said, let me get back to the Pledge itself. To demonstrate not only individual support for this Pledge (thank you Proxima for drafting it), but support as a united Empire, I have been directed in my role as Imperial Ambassador to sign for the entirety of the current Xeilias Empire. The omission of individual names in no way removes those individuals from the responsibility of living up to this Pledge. As you can see from our own Charter, doing so would not only break this Community's Pledge, but our own Imperial doctrine, and I can assure you, when it comes to behavior that would tarnish the Empire's reputation, such individuals will be dealt with swiftly.

/ signed. I like this one, it has more of a Role Playing feel to it.
Just to be clear, I am signing onto this portion:
By making our marks below we signify our dedication to the principle of creating ongoing stories of excitement, adventure, intrigue, and the unexpected that will be retold through the ages to new players and non-players alike in a manner that inspires those entertained by our tales to pull up their own keyboard and become a part of the next story. Game on.
I do not ascribe to the Wheaton Rule nor the thread / post linked in the OP.

It's fine to talk about what you're not going to do but I always think it's more powerful to say what you ARE going to do; and that's what this statement is.
This thread got so focused on four words it's like you forgot about all the other ones there. They're all important. The second section that even Bluddwolf likes is the inevitable destination of actually doing everything in the first section.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. I just thought it was funny that he wanted to make it clear. :P
I don't agree with the "Don't be a Dick" part, not because I want to be one, but because it is too subjective.
I get the impression, perhaps false, that Will Wheaton is a dick. His character in TNG certainly was. But he himself comes off that way to me as well.

I think Will Wheaton has a strong (possibly even inflated) sense of self worth. I don't think it's strong enough to make him a dick.
At the heart of it, I think "Don't be a Dick" is personal. If you don't think you're being a dick, you might or might not be. If you think you are being a dick, you almost certainly are. I take the proscription as "Be aware of what you are doing and don't do things that little voice inside says you shouldn't do."
Everyone's a dick now-and-then. If you're a dick on purpose, you suck.

So, you don't agree with anything that is at least as subjective as "don't be a dick"?

What part of it is against the Paizo forum rules is not getting into your heads . That is the point, it can't be done here . Go do it where it can be done. The whole concept of PFO being a different kind of PVP mmo is to hold ourselves accountable to the rules and that is being rejected by making a thread that thumbs it's nose at the Paizo rules.
And the selfsame rules tell you not to respond to offensive posts, but merely to flag and move along. If you respond, then you too are breaking the rules. And if you flag the posts, and they are not changed, then evidently you misunderstood the rules.
So: flag, and move on.

Actually, if you read his books, you will discover that it is for the exact OPPOSITE reason that he sometimes comes off as a 'dick'.
Many people who have struggled with low self-worth and low self-confidence devise ways to make it APPEAR that they don't have these issues. Over-ego and other such attitudes are a very common defence mechanism.
