I'm debating on using the center of square as starting point for any area of effect spells, instead of centering the spell at an intersection. As I see it, it will be easier to track active AoE spells on moving targets, such as a enemy with an aura. This would be centered on the enemy instead of having to decide which interaction it originate froms as he moves. And for spells like fireball and flaming hands, you would count out the distance like you were moving to determine which targets are affected. Thoughts? Suggestions? Does this idea suck? LOL :)

What you suggest effectively would increase the diameter of the spread/burst by 5' compared to counting from an intersection of squares. I do use a similar rule for auras, though: I choose to overlook the fact that (for instance) magic circle against evil mysteriously inflates if cast by a Large or larger creature. Under most circumstances keeping track would just be too much hassle for not much reward.

Been doing that forever, never noticed that it was particularly overpowered in any way.
